I'm having a pretty slow day and am just looking to spark up a conversation. Anyone working on anything cool? I love horror, so if anyone has something horrific brewing, tell me about it! I love listening to people talk about their upcoming projects. It can be so exciting. ~Zack~ |

I'm working on a feature for a Nigerian producer, all being well it will film in the autumn... drama/thriller.
Once I'm done with that I'm on to a period horror, set in the first world war. |

I seem to have an echo It's a creature flick set in the trenches, Brits and Germans have to work together to overcome a greater enemy sort of thing.., it's been bubbling away in my head whilst I've been writing on the paid gig... quite a good way to have it develop and percolate. |

Sounds like my kind of movie! I had an idea once for a werewolf flick set in world war 2, but I never got very far with it. I like the idea of the German and British being forced to team up. ~Zack~ |

I'm working on losing weight - does that count??? Actually, I kind of always start with titles and loglines and then debate the one I want to screw with next. I have these titles in the hopper:
- Achilles Healed
Confession is Good For the Sole Throw the Dogmatic a bone Caveat Emperor The Intekrnot In Search of Hysterical Jesus
The last one is the one that has most by interest now. The logline is something like: When a famous stand up comedian LITERALLY dies on stage, he is reincarnated as one of the Apostles with the mission of making the word of God a bit more humorous. I have a lot of notes - just not sure I can pull it off. Long winded way of saying - I am in the debate stage right now. |

Interesting approach. Not too dissimilar to my approach, believe it or not. I like that logline. Seems like that could actually be pretty funny if done right. ~Zack~ |

Ugh, I hate being the pessimistic one... I was going to quit last year, but then I optioned a feature and a short right off the bat in January 2016, so I hung on rewriting the feature. Then, I read a book that I loved and asked the publisher for permission to adapt it. They agreed and we are now working on trying to make that script perfect. Some big people involved! So, I'm still in, but I'd be lying to you if I said I'm gung-ho. I haven't watched a new movie I liked in years. I don't really watch TV shows either. I guess I just have lost interest in this business. I go to the grocery store and can't avoid the tabloids, but I have no clue who the people on the covers are... I still love SS and owe everything regarding to screenwriting to SS. I'm just losing interest in films and TV. There's a whole world out there that I find much more interesting. |

I've been wanting to write a really dark dystopian novel for some time. For about the last three weeks, I've been putting it together. Beyond that, I mostly spend my time with After.Life these days. |

I've been working on a prequel to Clint Eastwood's western 'Pale Rider' called 'And Hell Followed'. It's an origins feature on how/why he became the Preacher. There are a ton of references throughout to Revelations and Johnny Cash - what's better than that?! |

Collaborating on a supernatural/horror feature called The Followers. If I'm forced to come up with a logline (I haven't really, yet) it'd go something like... After two years on psych leave, a small town Sheriff investigates a strange suicide, but what he discovers is a well-guarded secret that would bring even the Devil to his knees.
Something like that anyways... |

I'm stuck halfway through writing The Fast and The Furious part 25. I went green with the story line, so this installment, they only race electric cars. Kind of in a lull point of the story -- they are stopped on the side of the road, plugged in on a cloudy day, and waiting for their solar panels to recharge the race cars.
I may have to rewrite this sooner than expected. |

JEStaats, that sounds like fun. I love fan-fics. Great way to hone your craft IMO. Steven, that logline seems pretty original to me. Could be really creepy. I'm actually collaborating on my first original feature and having a blast with it. If you don't mind me asking, what is your approach to collaborating? I'm still in the early stages of my feature, my partner and I are just ironing out the plot and characters. Really excited to get started on the actual script. ~Zack~ |

I'm writing an epic sci-fi meets fantasy novel, but I've been writing that forever and I'm only up to chapter 3 lol!
I've got a short sci-fi film in post-production at the moment and I'm working on the backstory and expanding this universe I'm calling the Nearscape. I'm going to write a TV bible next, my hope is to pitch it as a TV series. If I don't get any bites with my online attempts, I'm going to the London Screenwriter's Festival in September and I'll attempt to pitch it there. |

Zack,
Re:'the collaborating thing. This collaboration started around three years ago, so it's taken quite a bit of time but is finally winding down because we were shooting for Page, which we probably won't make. Anyway, he (Mark / Irish Eyes) sent me thirty pages of this thriller he had. We worked it a little, disagreed a lot, took some things out, left some in, added stuff. Then we got lazy, it took a back seat. Then this past summer I started on it again, and now it's on a rewrite that is looking pretty good so far. But we don't have any sharing software, so I send him pages, he gives me notes. It hasn't been a very smooth process, but we kinda got it going in the right direction. So, we'll see what happens with it. If anything, I got to make a pretty good friend. We talk on the phone a lot, met him over the summer at a film festival in Brooklyn, so it's cool. |

I'm working on rewriting my goddamn OWC script. It's hard to fit in time with all the worldly needs of wife and children and jobs and school and everything else.
Doing a lot of sketch comedy writing as well. Part of my new interest in starting a YouTube channel. Got a small group together and we all help each other produce our own videos, except sometimes it feels like everyone only wants to work on their own stuff.
I get it, same with me, but at least I make an effort to help with their projects. Now I'm venting about a whole different set of problems, I digress.
Just trying to find my voice as a writer, that's all I'm doing. |

I rewrote my OWC script (Earth's Final Moments) and Don's posted it if anyone is interested. That script (believe it or not) is actually a prequel to a TV series I'm developing. Working on the pilot script and a TV bible now and producing a short film that ties into this universe I'm creating. Have enough of a high level concept for about three seasons. I've never been so excited about a project ever.
Of course, it's huge budget and I'm an unknown who writes part time as a hobby, so the chances of anyone picking this up is a big fat zero, but I'm loving the creative process and really enjoying it. |

I'm at a similar point in some ways. I still love movies and TV is in a golden age, for me, but my motivation to create films has diminished somewhat. It's partly because I found God. There's a certain pettiness to films that is hard to stomach now my world view has changed. It's also partly a realisation on similar lines that films, and Art in general, are phoney. They can't take me to the place I want to go. You can only create further artifice, you cannot create reality. The true canvas is real life. |

I don't write much these days but I've decided to give my last OWC a shot as a feature.
Inevitably turning a simple concept into a feature shows you all the gaps and shortfalls there are, but I've made quite good progress.
I've had to accept many changes, but to help me along I'm writing out an unseen backstory so I can be consistent and know where I'm coming from.
The protagonist is stuck in his own dream world/coma and must make his way through various worlds/scenes to survive. This throws up some great opportunities for weird visual shit, however, I want them to be relevant. As a trainee therapeutic counsellor I am curious on the mind, how people are , how they relate etc so I think it throws up some opportunities to explore those worlds.
One idea which I can't decide whether to ditch or not, is whether he needs a buddy on the adventure, and if so, my first idea was to have his alter ego to reflect we have many split parts to our self and to show the opportunity for growth. Still working on that.
Cheers all |
