The no comment required option is fascinating to me. I get that perhaps the author doesn't want to reply to posts, and that's their prerogative, but thinking back to everything there is to learn from loglines to how the first 10 pages read, I would think it's invaluable to have access to the discussions threads have to offer.

Just a thought.

Tony

Don's Edit

I've moved this to it's own discussion.  Some believe that having negative comments in their thread would adversely affect the scripts chances of the script getting picked up.  I think this is worthy of discussion.

I have posted scripts here with the "no comments needed" option. I've done it when I have no intention to do re-writes and I don't want the nice people here to waste their time reading and commenting.

Thanks for pointing that out - I was about to give notes. The author may prefer not to receive comments but this appears to be their first-ever script and I guarantee no pro is going to get past the first half-page.

The sole reason I post to SS is for the incredibly valuable feedback I've received from this community. This has been my screenwriting school. For those who feel negative feedback will deter interest, I've had scripts posted here that have been received less than favorably, but have still continued to garner emails of interest (unfortunately one being from the notorious Michelle Barrett, but hey!). To each their own though! Pia has a valid point, I just hope newcomers realize how wonderful a resource the comments can be — good or bad!

I think the feedback available on SS is a fantastic and invaluable resource (and free)...

But some people are looking for exposure for their scripts and nothing else... their prerogative I guess.

I like when people announce ahead a time that they are not interested in comments. Save's a reviewer from wasting time.

I know in the OWC... if someone rips your script first... you can just about discount anyone loving it. Perhaps it would work the same way with a feature here?

I can also understand posting a script without wanting comments if you have spent the time getting coverage notes and rewriting the script. Notes or critiques are usually just an opinion. If a script is damn good... who cares about asides or if they use improper traditional rules. All about story to the right people.

So, I see nothing wrong with posting available scripts without wanting critiques. Exposure is everything and a lot of scripts are picked up from this site. Great site to post scripts.

So what was the reason for posting your script? I don't understand the logic.

...for filmmakers to see? Not sure if you know this, but SS has a very successful history of having shorts and features being produced after being posted here.

Thinking further about this... would it be a good idea to immediately lock the thread when an author indicates no comment?

I had thought about that. In some cases (well, one) the author has asked this. I’ve left it open so that one could post a query, i.e., is this still available, etc.
