This is easily my favorite out of the ones that have come out. There's a lot more action/explosions than I expected but that's merely a surprise, not a drawback. It does look quite spectacular. The Alien influence is unmistakable but I appreciate the fact that it's not actually a prequel. That only means that Ridley and co. sought out to make one but stayed true to their creative impulses and let it evolve, rather than giving in to the pressure of living up to the franchise.
I can only anticipate this more given Scott's past decade of tedious period pieces/political thrillers/Russel Crowe films. I think it definitely has the potential to be something truly special.
couldn't agree more James. while the alien fan inside me wishes that it was a full blown prequel, it would ultimately fall short of expectations for alien fans (no matter how well it turns out). TDKR and the hobbit has SO much hype to live up to, that many fans are going to feel disappointed after its release.
really happy that Scott is doing sci-fi again. he's been sort of hit or miss for me lately. not by a huge margin though. he's a good director all around, i just have a hard time getting into some of his films.
Even though it's just a teaser it looks effing awesome. For me this is the movie of 2012. Can't wait. Like James said they're definitely playing the Alien card here - the sound and title design - and if this movie works out (and if Fox play their hand right) this could be a rejuvenation of the Alien (but not really Alien) franchise.
I could have lived without the Inception trailer inspired BUZZING sound everyone seems to be using in trailers nowadays.
