I really hope I get the chance to write one of these features one day. Mad Max is up there with Planet of the Apes for me.
This looks good... and I doubt there's much that can go wrong with this. Looking forward to it. |

Being an Aussie I feel sorta qualified to speak about this.
Mad Max 2 is one of my faves and the best Aussie film ever IMO lol. The first one is prety good and Thunderdome ok.
Am I right in reading somewhere that this new one is set after MM2 and before Thunderdome?
Have no idea why the leads arent Aussies. But then I guess there isn't anyone who can better or even replicate Mel Gibson's original Max.
it looks authentic with the Aussie locations and such (my aunty lives near where the originals were filmed) but the story seems pretty much the same as MM2 with endless chases for petrol etc.
I'll just stick to watching the old ones on DVD lol |

I think this looks pretty sweet. Big fan of Tom Hardy, but agree with Stevie that it's odd that they haven't used an Aussie for it. It always bothers me when I see a non Brit butchering one of our accents, especially when I know there are plenty of Brit actors that could of played the role.
I suppose the positive is it's not the incredibly wooden Sam Worthington in the lead. But, maybe it's just me who feels that way about him?? |

He is, which is one of the reasons I'm a fan of him. Also why I think it's odd he was cast as an Aussie when surely there are others that could of taken the role. |

No offens guys. But first parts of Mad max are terrible to me. The Plot is something from mind of psychedelic drug addict. I watch it again and again, but still sucks. But that just my opinion. Peace. |

The only Australians famous enough at the moment to play Max would be Wolverine, Thor or Avatarman. I can't see those working well. I was also under the impression Gibson is about as Australian as Russell Crowe and Nicole Kidman.
They should have picked you, Stevie. You could have been humming Come Together during the chases and fighting scenes whilst swigging on a Tooheys.
I also heard they filmed this in South Africa. Australia musta looked a bit too, um, Australian for them.
Hmm. I'm off to peruse my Delia Smith book. Must get some more flour later.

It was filmed in Namibia according to Imdb. Also learned that it's a standalone film that could slot in between the first and second ones. I indeed could play Max! Leather tattered shorts and singlet. My wife says I look like Humongous too. Personally I feel I look more like Wez but with a goatee Have great memories of driving home from the drive in in 1982 after seeing Mad Max 2. Me and the boys were pumped up from the epic film and they were urging me to floor my old HR Holden! |

You are so right there, Stevie. Mel Gibson is Mad Max. I'm a bit miffed they didn't cast an Aussie in the lead too, and that's saying a lot for someone who's a big fan of Tom Hardy. Its Aussie rawness including the accents (though Mel's was always a bit international sounding) were what made Mad Max distinct. Ok, I just noticed Rosie Huntington Whiteley is in it - and Elvis Presley's granddaughter, ooh, and Megan Gale! Ok, call me cynical but this just makes me wonder. Oh, hang on, there are a few Aussie's in the cast including stalwarts Melissa Jaffer and John Howard (no, not the ex-PM) and Josh Helman (Wolf Creek). Thank God! If there's a story mixed in amongst the car chases, stunts, and shoot em ups, then maybe I'll give this a go. It sure does look slick. Namibia?! Oh well, throw in an automated lizard skittlin' across some sand dunes and instant Australia. Kangaroos wouldn't have worked at all.
I'll just stick to watching the old ones on DVD lol |
I may well too, but I'll reserve final judgment. Maybe... |

HR Holden? Not too bad a car I suppose. If you're a girl.
Hardy was good in Inception. And as Bronson. Loved him in The Dark Knight Rises. Almost went to see This Means War but luckily I came to my senses when I found out it was McG and I legged it away.
He'll be good in this. I think this may turn out rather well. George Miller can do good work.

The Road Warrior ranks as an all time favourite of mine. Simple yet so very effective -- always surprised at how little dialogue it contains.
Trailer looks decent enough -- I just hope it manages to retain the rawness and grit of the originals (okay, maybe not so much Thunderdome) without rehashing old ground with a bigger budget and shinier cast.
High hopes -- though these are some big ol' post apocalyptic boots to fill.

Been reading some trivia about Mad Max 2 on imdb...
Apparently Mel only had 16 lines of dialogue in the whole film, lol!
And in one of the action scenes, a stuntman goes flying over a car after crashing his motorbike. When they filmed it, he actually breaks his leg during the stunt. This was kept in and is visible in the film.
Also when they were filming the final epic sequence, the stunt guy driving the truck wasn't allowed to eat for 12 hrs I case he had to be rushed to surgery because it was that dangerous!
Marvellous film. In my all time top 5. |

Plenty of famous works have been written by drug addicts. I think at one point, in some obscure dictionary, the very definition of writer was drug addict. |

And as Stevie will endorse, the Beatles were out of their boxes and high as planes when they wrote some of the finest songs the world has ever seen.
Wilde, Coleridge, Stevenson, Huxley and Philip K Dick, whose plots have formed the basis for some of the biggest films of the last few decades.
And let's give a nod to all the drunks. Stephen King was legless while he wrote some of his early and best stuff. He must have proofed it when he was hungover.
Not so long ago most of the illegal drugs were legal and available in the high street and everybody was on them. You could send a kit of them to soldiers in the first world war.
