Apparently 2012 just got a sequel...and I thought it was a GTA movie. Would never have expected to see The Rock and Paul Giamatti in the same movie. I guess stranger things have happened.

I love these types of movies, Day After Tommorow, 2012 ect.

I'll watch it because of The Rock anyway but still, looks like a really fun movie, full of excitement.

Sometimes I just wanna kick back, ya know?

If a Mod can move it to teh movie review thread, I'll give you my take on it, as I saw it the week beofre last in IMAX 3D.

I was surprised at the many faults (joke not intended) in this movie. Although I loved it and will get it on DVD when released - I'm a sucker for a disaster movie- , I was shocked that there were serious oversights when it came to the rules of the earthquake. Sure filmmakers strive for that impact moment, but when does impact become a complete joke.

For example the GIANT fault line, had it occurred, ALL earthquakes would have ceased, even aftershocks. With a fault that large there would be no tectonic plates left to rub together and make an earthquake. That irritated me, sometimes I think they bypass the reality in place of grandeur.

I saw it in 3D and thankfully it did not give me a migraine by the end of the movie (which most 3d movies do). I walked out going "How awesome were those shots when you actually looked down through the destroyed buildings to the roads, or what was left of the roads below".

Saw this last week in 3D and was entertained throughout.

Hey, you know what you're in for when you go see a disaster movie, so those who don't like them or want to throw rocks at, based on plot, characters, and other such things, should just stay away, because the only thing that really matters in these movies is the destruction and the FX...and this delivers in spades.

I like The Rock.  I have no problem admitting that.  I think he's cool, has lots of charisma, and makes most of his movies better than they should be.

I also like Carla Gugino.  She’s hot at 43, and also cute, and she can act.

I have a not so secret love interest for Alexandra Daddario.  That face, those eyes, those…big beautiful…uh…sorry…couldn’t help myself.  I like this chick, but she’s 29 and playing a 19 year old girl here, which is a bit lame, but she does run and also gets soaking wet here, so I guess I’m OK overall with casting her in the role of the Rock’s kid, even though in real life, the Rock is only 14 years older than she is.

If you don’t know already, I doubt I’m spoiling anything by saying there are loads and loads of completely unrealistic things happening. Main characters are basically super humans in what they can do and sustain.  Nature is capable of mind boggling powers, as well.

But, as I said above, I was entertained throughout, and by moving from The Hoover Dam, to Los Angeles, and finally to San Francisco, it really keeps things interesting and somewhat fresh, even.

This is what a Summer blockbuster is really all about, and I’m very glad I got to see it on the big screen in 3D.

Grade – Solid B

Awful. Just god awful. The CGI is garbage and looks worse than Jurassic World. The plot is laughably bad (which was purposeful obviously). The Rock sucks like he does in every movie. The chick that plays his daughter is way whiter than both the Rock and the woman who plays her mom. Oh the age difference between the Rock and his "daughter" is just weird.

And if that weren't enough, there are two "British" actors in the film.

Don't see this movie. Ever. And if you still haven't seen Mad Max (or didn't like it), shame on you for giving shitty movies your money.

San Andreas is the definition of Disaster Porn. But just like porno, the same video gets old after two minutes.

For me tho, you ain't gonna get a better disaster film than Poseidon with Kurt Russell, that shit was heart-pounding, especially if you got hang-up about drowning and water.

Really?  Wow...IMO, Poseidon was one of the worst movies of all time, considering the cast, the budget, and the source material.

This was a HUGE BO failure and a critical disaster.

What about the scene in the vent? Damn son.

I won't ever see it. I suffered through "Earthquake" in the seventies. From the trailers this seems to be a rip off of that and that one sucked in the first place.

Yep same... not Earthquake but I don't like disaster movies. Even if this was 'free' on Netflix I'd avoid it.

I'll keep it short and sweet..... horrible movie.

Saw the film on video, spotted the thread just to comment on it. First things first. It is better than 'Piss'sideon :p I hated Emmerich's 2012, but found the same director's Day After Tommorow slightly better. That is, still, however, not high on a scale. Still, what separates Emmerich's disaster pics from pix like San Andreas is generally a diverse ensemble cast, characters- sometimes cliched, sometimes painted in one-note broad strokes- come together to solve a bigger threat than themselves. 2012, however, pushed the limit of cliched, stereotypical and thinly written characters. Man how I hated that film.

But I'll still give loud, big and dumb disaster films a try, especially if there is talent involved that I usually like, such as Dwayne Johnson.

The  opening sequence had promise. I wrongly assumed that the setup would deal with not only Johnson's character, but his Coast Guard rescue pals as well. The focus was all on that character's family while the majority of the West Coast gets buried in rubble, giant waves and other mayhem. A third story took shape with Giamatti's character, but I found those scenes dull and very, very odd. Late in the film it is stated that "no one took the scientists seriously" this confused me- because unless some scene got chunked out on the editing floor, I could have sworn up and down that the earthquake started minutes after they conducted the tests to prove their theory. If you give a warning and no one listens is one thing. Give a warning when the threat happens in the moment...that's another ballgame.

Cliched, annoying characters die fast, except for the cliched annoying character played by Ioan Gruffud, who the filmmakers went out of their way to make sure we knew he was a jerk, a coward, a rich self absorbed you-know-what and he goes out in a glorious carnage. What was the point? Panic left and right, non-pricks dying all around, I mean, there's a LOT of set up characters who are never seen again, and the assumption is that they didn't make it. I did not cheer his character's death, I pitied it. I felt nothing for his character.

At no time did Johnson's character attempt to rescue anyone else. At no time did he coordinate his rescue of his family with others of his unit.  He does not assist them, nor they him.

The FX are fine, I liked the scene, however implausible, of the tsumani hitting L.A. ans the sinking building and all, but I was disppointed overall and happy that I skipped this film last summer.

The FX in this was surprisingly really good. The 2 actresses running while their boobs bouncing up and down held my attention. Ladies, I even saw the Rock's boobs bouncing a bit as well.
