This as good a place to start as any for Nick Cave? I've been meaning to check out more of his shit, but his discography is intimidating. Dug a good few songs from him thus far, though.

It's a nice intro to his style. Some of his classics are here, like "Red Right Hand" and "Loverman".
Thanks. Definitely heard "Red Right Hand." Will check it out.
Always get intimidated when artists/bands have long discographies spanning decades, especially when they change their style a lot. Had the same problem getting into bands like Melvins, Neurosis and Swans. It's easy to assume the older material is best, but you never know.

Yeah I felt the same when I tackled Bowie, Dylan, Cohen and Waits. Oddly enough, I feel Cave's first 4 albums are probably his most difficult to get into since he was still weening himself off the crash, bang vitriol of The Birthday Party. He mellowed out in the 90s (Murder Ballads notwithstanding) and now has only the occasional angry, shouty diatribes among his more melodic stuff.
Still, I always reckon the best place to start with any artist/band/filmmaker (if you are planning to delve right in) is at the beginning.
He is well worth your time though, especially if you've dug the few songs you've heard. Provocative, insightful, scary, funny, depraved, tender. Its all there. A true troubadour and raconteur.
Don't forget his soundtracks and work with Grinderman too.
