I thought I'd sex it up a bit with "Unauthorized OWC!"

Take one of the Urban Legends found via this link http://www.snopes.com/horrors/horrors.asp

Write a 5 to 10 page screenplay and put your own spin on it - I want to see your voice shine in what you've written.

12 Steps by Dena McKinnon (paleyellow) - Short - Blown away by his wife's overdose, a recovering addict hurts his only son in an uncontrollable rage and must find a way to cope with his guilt. 12 pages - pdf, format

True Myth by Bill Sarre (reef dreamer) - Short, Urban Legend - When a secret military team gains the power of psychic foresight, their greatest challenge is what happens next. 8 pages - pdf, format

No Experience Necessary by Dena McKinnon (paleyellow) - Short, Horror - Desperate for income, Liz takes on a gig that she may not live to regret. - pdf, format

Cooked by Chris Shamburger (sham) - Short, Horror - A this-or-that of urban legends as an old cat lady goes about her day. - pdf, format

The Enforcer by Mark Dunn (currentcmine) - Short, Horror - A drug cartel enforcer goes ona rampage of murder and mayhem. - pdf, format

Semper Fi by Felipe D. Machado (cinemachado) - Short, Suspense - A man attempts to settle his affairs before flying home from military duty. - pdf, format

Speed Trap by Gary Rademan (grademan) - Short, Horror - Two teenage boys joyride and shoot an empty “trap” patrol car on a night when an unusual officer is inside. - pdf, format

Hey Don,

Are these all the scripts or are there more waves to come?

I think it's all. I don't think many people entered.

Just Murdered by Sean Elwood (Zombie Sean) and Gabriel Moronta (Mr. Ripley) - (Dark Comedy, Horror) All is fair in love and war. A hopeless romantic gay man resorts to bloodshed to win the coveted position of Bridesmaid. 99 pages.

That's about how many OWC scripts there used to be in the old days. More manageable than 40 and definitely less hectic.

Thanks to those who participated.

Thanks Don for posting these so quickly after the New Year.  The turn out was actually better than I expected.   Sorry, again, that I didn't submit one but curious to have a look at these.

Phew... i thought it was me and Dena holding the fort for a moment. I'm really glad to see others join in.

Thanks Don for posting this as a OWC version - i like the title!

Pia, the old OWC's only had 8-10 entries! Really! i'm so new i've only seen the large entries. One beauty of this challenge is that we can reply to the reviews! Praise the lord.

Also, well done Dena for two scripts. I like the attitude.

Finally, Michael you may not be in but thanks for the idea.

Remember folks these were put together over Xmas.

Cheers

I didn't even know there was one. I'm tempted to say not many other folks did either.

As for the theme, I already had a Urban Legend short on site anyway (Forced Donation - Stolen Kidneys)

And about the title, "Unofficial" would have been a more apt description.

Look forward to reading these. I wanted to post one but thought it was bit too early in my development especially with it being a busy Christmas and new year period.

A big well done to Dena (Paleyellow) though, two scripts entered.

My hat's off to all the participants.
The overall quality of the entries was undeniably solid.
A testament to the writers and the organizers.

Cheers,
E.D.

Ok.  Since everyone seems to be responding to their entries, it's time for the readers (you don't have to have an entry) to pm me with their favourites (one, two, but no more than three).   I'll collate them and post the results as Reader's choice.  You have three days.

A reminder to vote for readers choice by PMing me with up to three choices in order.  Several have.  You want to make sure your vote is counted too.

Agreed!

I personally am glad I participated for this. I haven't been a part of a OWC in almost two years, and I needed a good challenge.

Sent in my votes.

I think everyone did a great job! I liked this challenge. The only thing I would have liked better would be for all scripts to have a link to that particular legend it uses.

Thanks to all that participated.  It was a small but good OWC.

The Reader's Choices are as follows:

Malevolence
Cooked

With Honorable Mention for:

True Myth
Speed Trap

Additional kudos to:

Semper Fi
No Experience Necessary

Hope you all had fun.  We'll do this again some time.

Great job all around! Looking forward to the next one? Any ideas on when that will be? In a writing mood lately.

Glad to see people in general agreed with my opinions. Haha

Cool, I've never been a reader's choice before. Can I put that on a resume?

It's definitely a confidence boost knowing people enjoyed something you created. Thanks for that.

And congrats, Pia! I don't have any beer in the house but I'm in the middle of sipping my celebratory glass of wine. Cheers!

Congratulations, Pia.

I'm looking forward to soon reading what appear to be another batch of fine entries.
Maybe I'll even finish up the last dozen of the OCT OWC! Ha!
