Recently I downloaded ginger and it worked a treat, but then my computer got bonked by adware and pop ups. I got a I.T. fella around to fix it and he said ginger was a dodgy program and could have been the source of the pests.

Does anyone use ginger and have problems with it?

Are there any other good proofreading programs? I wouldn't even mind paying if it's decent and does it job.

Try Grammarly instead, I find it a lot more stable than Ginger...

I've never used any of them, but after doing some research it doesn't appear to be the fault of Ginger that you have pop ups etc. Ginger seems legit. Chances are, this is down to something else.

Usually this type of thing is down to clicking something you shouldn't. Either visiting porn sites or perhaps some flash gaming sites too. Behind the flash can be hidden code, and when you click to play, you're also clicking to download malware.

I'm surprised your IT guy would tell you something like that. If I were your IT guy, I'd assume you'd been watching porn or downloading things you shouldn't from torrent sites.

To be fair, I had similar issues with Gingerly and uninstalled, re-installed and uninstalled again before moving on to Grammarly...

Ginger seemed to make other programs slow or unresponsive, may well ust have been comptability issues between plugins or similar.

I've not had such issues with Grammarly so will use that for now.

Yes, I can understand compatibility issues, it just seems unlikely that Ginger is also installing malicious content like adware.

And no, believe it or not, Dustin, this computer is not for porn. It's strictly for writing and e-mails. I am well aware of the repercussions from visiting such sites cheers to my teen years.

Is Ginger a screenwriting service?  If so, I use Celtx.  It works fine and I don't seem to have any issues.  I guess the only drawback is you have to be online....

No, Ginger and Grammarly are both spelling/grammar services... I export my script, once finished, into Grammarly to double check everything, it's helping me re-learn my grammar rules

Grammarly integrates with Word and Google Chrome and runs in the background, so it's advising me as I write this!

Think there's other services, like Pro Writing Aid, that also do similar.

In terms of CeltX... well obviously there's a bunch of screenwriting software/services, and everyone has their favourites! I used to use CeltX but it lost a weeks worth of writing for me so I moved to FD.

Oh, I could probably use that help.  How does that work with the screenwriting software?  I have a mac, so, how does that limit stuff?

Hey Dan... no idea re Mac as I don't have one

It doesn't directly work with screenwriting software (as far as I know), I just export to Word to check it.

I'd recommend visiting their website and having a look for yourself.
