Hi all,

A short horror film I had a wee hand in helping with the production has been doing well on the film festival circuit. It recently won best short horror at the San Diego Comic Con. It is called Doll Maker and was written by our very own, Matias Caruso and started off on Simply Scripts.

https://simplyscriptsreviews.w.....able-for-production/ - I can’t find the original forum thread so maybe it was removed?

Anyway, it was directed by Al Lougher who made So Pretty, a  script that also originated on SS. DM is still doing the rounds on the circuit, so we can’t officially release it online yet but Al gave me permission to post it here for a limited audience. So below is a link and a password for you to watch it, if you want to of course. If you do, let us know what you think.

This is just great on so many levels.

The production quality is very high; it looks and sounds amazing. The acting is solid and it’s all held together with a really imaginative and heart wrenching story.

It's not hard to see why this is doing well.

Congats to all involved.

Now, that's how you make a short film.

From story to production, high calibre stuff.

How did you come to be involved, Mark?

Thanks so much for the peek.

You see it's not what you know, it's who you know in this business - I met him many moons ago when we both worked in IT Support. We made a short film together for a laugh which turned out far better than both of us expected.  We've collaborated with each other ever since on several projects.

I'm glad you liked DM.

Fantastic production! I went into this with high hopes... Al directing a script by Matias? It didn't disappoint. Great lighting and camera work. Nice use of the hourglass as a visual. Another chilling soundtrack by Zaalen. And the actors delivered great performances. Having never read this one, and I've read most of Mr. Z's work here, the ending twist was something I didn't see coming. Nothing really to add here except thanks for sharing. Hope someone gives Al the keys to a feature soon, his work clearly shows his more than capable.

I'm with Warren and LC; the production quality and the story were pretty high.

The best short I've seen this year.

Thanks for sharing, Mark.

Very nicely done.  Loved the hour-glass visual regarding the time jump.  Can't say I'm a huge fan of creepy doll horror but this was a pleasure to watch.  Appreciate you sharing the link.

Creepy doll? Now I'm going to have to watch it. I'm co-writing a spoof creepy doll feature so need to watch as many creepy doll movies as possible. The only two in my repertoire atm are Magic and Pin. I'm kinda avoiding Chucky as it's already pretty funny.

Good. Very smart. My only niggle is the cash for magic thing. It never sits right in my mind to use cash to pay for magical items. Magic should cost something else.

Aside from that, I loved it. I don't know Mattias, so well done Mark!
