I was actually incorrect about the convict count. This was due to CONSTANCE "CONNIE" who stuck in my mind as a convict despite what was written. That's been corrected.
haha wow...talk about a scary coincidense....surprised no one said anything.
i was just reading over the Lake Simply Game... and noticed Dreamscale not only already did the Dog-sidekick thing.. but that we also gave the dogs eerily similar names... Chomper/Jaws.
swear on my life i didnt read that until just now.
Mag-tech .38 Standard space issued .38 caliber pistols using liner magnetic technology to shoot projectiles at extreme velocity. By contrast to gun powder fired weapons - these are nearly silent and far less volatile. The ammo for these particular guns have metal casings, but ceramic points. This is so they can be fired with lethal force inside spaceships and other controlled interior enviorments without damaging the hull.
Okay Michael I'll lose DiaLeak and think of something else. I could also easily change Bernard to a guard if needs be? Being a liar and faker he could have taken the identity of someone else.
Check out my scripts...if you want to, no pressure.
You don't need to change him to a guard. We're looking pretty even on the factions now. Though do change DiaLeak, please. LOL.
I think the thing to remember when coming up with these terms is that they should be something we are going to refer to while writing the story.
Even if the stuff was DiaLeak - I doubt it would be referred to as DiaLeak. Maybe "gutmop" or "brownpants" or even "runz". Especially if people were using it for fun. You're British, Alffy, so I'm sure you know the score on slang.
And it's not just DiaLeak in the Lexicon that has issues with usage. For example, I don't think any character is going to be spending any time outdoors or in vehicles. The locations are the rooms on the maps (unless you convince me there's a compelling reason to add another location). Shame to waste a precious term on a technology that will never be seen or mentioned.
So, think about how the term would be used and if anyone wants to change theirs, then do so.
Got my second piece of tech. Hopefully it will fit into the story better.
Personalised computer tablet (or tab)
A handheld device about the size and shape of an iPhone and works basically like a small laptop (or like one of those things they carry around in Star Trek, Trekkies help me out on this one). It also doubles as ID/clearance for base personnel so that they can easily access different areas of the base. Each tab is personalised so that security staff can more easily keep track of who goes where. But if one were stolen, say....
I can't live the buttoned-down life like you. I want it all. The dizzying highs, the terrifying lows, the creamy middles. Sure, I may offend some of the blue bloods with my cocky stride and musky odors. Oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called "city fathers," who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards and talk about what's to be done with this Homer Simpson?
Michael, you said the word can be something the character user, right? What about Bilking?
Not sure if it's a word you use in the States, if it is, I'll think of something else. If it's not a word you use, it basically means to obtain something through deceit or theft.
Also Twoced, Taken Without Consent.
You got me think when you said I'm British so think of a slang term. I'll list some and maybe you could say which you think would work well, and one you don't maybe know. Bees Knees meaning something is brilliant. Botch or Botch Job meaning the work done is not of god standard. codswallop meaning what someone said is not true Pip pip meaning to say goodbye or maybe Screws meaning a Prison Guard.
I'd rather use a term that was uncommon to you in the States.
Check out my scripts...if you want to, no pressure.
I think you're missing the point with the terms, alffy. They are words or slang that doesn't already exist. This is occurring in the future and there will be new things (or even old things) with new names.
There are always new terms in sci-fi, it's a technique that causes us to feel like we are in a different place. You are destined to come up with them while writing this script.
The idea of having the authors create two terms at the start is because if I allow people to create these terms while writing then the understand-ability of the script will suffer. It could very easily get out of control. Plus it will cause us to spend time in the script explaining these terms rather than furthering the story.
Much better to nip it in the bud right away.
Everyone else who is playing...
...should be adding their character to this thread....I have to start getting the paperwork prepared so the deadline is essentially Friday (my time). Get those characters in.
...should be adding their two terms to this thread.
Just to help people with the terms stuff here's the logic I would use to come up with a term...
I'll use the tablet as an example (tab is a fine name, Matt - this is just here as a quick example).
1. I would imagine what it looks like in the future.. I would imagine that a tablet was a clear plexiglass slab.
2. I would associate. I would associate a clear tablet with a window. This association is further enhanced by the current operating system - Windows - which may even be the operating system it will have.
3. I would shorten. Windows is too long and hard to say, if I'm going to refer to it all the time. So, I would call it a "dow" or even a "doe" to correct the sound. I could even name it "do" (rhymes with two) - which would be what it does.
So my term would be:
Do - a small clear plexiglass computing tablet.
That way people could say "Where's my do?", or "Let me check that on my do", or "Why is my do making strange noises? OMG! The core's about to meltdown! Run!"
