The Package by Tony Carroll - Drama, Radio Play - During the seventies the IRA launched a bombing campaign across the UK. The success of these operations often depended on so called safe houses, where weapons and explosives were stored. This play, written for radio, is about one of those houses and the owners, Jon and Maria. It is set in the suburbs of Birmingham in 1974 and begins with the death of a priest, killed whilst handling an explosive he was storing for the IRA. - rtf, format
I'm a newbie here. Checked the listed scripts and picked yours for 2 reasons. 1st it's been up for awhile, a number of views but 0 replies. (?) 2nd I like radio plays and still listen via sattelite radio. That said, I like your script. It reads like you know your subject. Now you know there's got to be a "but" coming. BUT I'd like it even better if....(1) I had more info to paint the mental picture of the the town, church, etc.. The characters usually provide that info through their dialogue or one character acts as the narrater. (2) I was confused by Maria. She finds out her husband has been involved in extremely dangerous activities for years and doesn't express any support for the IRA but moves seamlessly from innocent housewife to the coolest customer when questioned by the police without missing a beat. (2) I think John should have told Jimmie not to go to his Dad but Jimmie goes anyway, without John. That way John doesn't come of as such a wimp when Jim approaches the Dad and the son just stands there. Just my opinion . I could be wrong. Peace.
