Children of God by Deron Turner - Drama - It's about a journey of perverse discoveries for two adolescent Baltimore city hustlers that becomes one of self discovery as well. Spanning the sexually charged and turbulent me- generation from 1982 through 1992, the film is about friendship, solidarity, real world angst, youth in peril and finally death. It's about the near crippling effects of too many seasons spent in the dark shadows of child abuse and the choices we all have to make- in order to survive the dangerous slide into- adulthood. And finally; It's about finding yourself suddenly alone in the world, a world that has, somehow passed you by, chewed you up and managed to spit you out. 90 pages - pdf, format
Hello. This script has an interesting title and tagline so I thought I'd give it a read. I'm half way through and will finish it soon. Gotta say, so far so good. Reads a bit more like a novel than a script though...
Response to the question by DDP "What inspired you to write this?"
Well, first of all I hope you enjoyed "Children of God" I'll tell you it was no easy writing project. Easy reading as I'm sure you know... is damn hard writing. Second, it reads more like a novel because it's not a shooting script, I think that shooting scripts slow the reader down and since it's unpublished anyway, why not write a reader involved project- a real speculation script, anyway, that was the goal, the mandate for this project was quite simple really; Write a script that deals with child abuse, make the victim a male child, make it a character driven project, keep the budget below- low, and lastly, no hollywood endings. Well, obviously if you've read the project you already know, I followed these mandates very closely. The truth however, is that there is a little bit of these characters in me, and to me, it wasn't really a question of did, or could I relate to them, but rather, it was much more a matter of me going to bat for them, they fought and scratched and right along side them, there I was, fighting the demons with them. This is a very personal script for me.
