Alright folks, it's time. I was going to wait until midnight to do this, but screw it. Welcome to the Scarefest Script Club 2WC. We're gonna try something a little different with this one.

First, this will not be an anonymous challenge. In fact, all participants are encouraged to be open about your projects. We're all horror fans here. Talk to each other. Bounce ideas off one another.

Second, this will be a two-part challenge. After the sub-genres are revealed on the 15th, writers will have one week to submit their first draft. (NOTE: It does not need to be the first draft, just A draft.) From there, writers will be given another week to rewrite their work based on the feedback they have recieved.

TIMELINE
FEB 15th- Sub-genres are announced and the SSC2WC officially begins.
FEB 22th- The first draft is due.
MAR 1st- The final draft is due.

The scripts must be 10-15 pages.

The sub-genres will be randomly picked from a hat. You may to chose which of the two you would like to write in, or you can combine the two if you would like.

Anyone who wishes to participate, please PM me and let me know before the 15th.

Come on fellow horror fans. Let's have some fun.

~Zack~

EDIT: The two sub-genres are Monster horror and Cannibal horror.

Cool.

I hate watching horror but seem to have had success writing it.

One thing I know. I love a challenge....and it can't get worse than the last one, but hell that was comedy...

Il try

Inner Journey - Page Awards Finalist - Bluecat semi final

I'm game, assuming the sub genre is something I have some interest in.

If I'm in, I'll provide a finished draft by the first deadline. I rarely go back and do any rewrites, other than fix a mistake, but as you guys know very well, I don't make many mistakes.

Love you long time!!!!

BTW, Zack, or should I call you Disco, now...can you list what sub genres are going into this hat?  And, are we all writing in the exact same sub genre, or are you saying each person that says they're in gets a random pick?

It's still just Zack. Lol.

I'm currently getting together the list of sub-genres and will be posting it soon. And the chosen sub-genre will be the same for everyone.

The second OWC I did was gothic horror...that's missing, as if I know all these things.

Bollocks,  I'm gonna have another crap entry - just like Jeff in vegas.

That's what I was thinking as well. I'll add the others you mentioned.

I would give Vampires and Werewolves each their own subgenre. Of course, either could fall under Monster or Supernatural, but that's a moot point if you're picking the subgenre out of a hat. I would also add Serial Killer (NOT the same as slasher), as well as Action and Sci-Fi Horror.

Mumblegore

LOL. I can't believe this is a real thing. Even more surprising, it actually fits some of the films listed on the Wikipedia page.

Haha.

It's the horror version of Mumblecore.

Mumblecore is an independent,  low budget genre,  usually dealing with 20/30 year old white peoples problems...though that's not a genre necessity of course.

Under nature horror, are you including real animal horror?

To me, nature horror has to do with nature, not animals, but maybe I'm weird.

Hey Reef...what's with the Jeff in Vegas remark?  How'd you hear about my Vegas horror stories?

You will simply have to write in the sub-genre that is chosen. Besides that, it's on you.

I despise rom-coms, but that's the challenge. You can write anything that you find scary. A relative of mine recently felt dizzy. She went to the hospital, found out she had an aneurysm. She had emergency brain surgery. Everything went fine, but she woke up and couldn't swallow or urinate. Go to rehab for a week to work on that. Then she gets menengitis! Another surgery! Meanwhile, she's aware that she's not as sharp as she used to be. IMO, that can easily be a horror story. Remember that all stories are dramas at its core. If there's no drama, then the story won't be any good. I guess what I'm saying is that you know drama...just add a horrific situation to it.

PS: If you partake, I promise to try a rom-com!

I'm in if it's comedy(which i think go well together personally.)  Not sure I have much range beyond that, especially with the Horror main genre.

I'd list my "work" here, but I don't know how to hyperlink.

"Career" Highlights
-2, count em, 2 credits on my IMDB page.
-One time a fairly prominent producer e-mailed me back.
-I have made more than $1000 with my writing!
-I've won 2 mugs... and a thong.  (polaroids of me in thong available for $10 through PM)

@vc_wg - because I crave attention

I'm not sure what version of frozen you saw, but it seems different than the one that I fell in love with.  I am pretty sure that in a previous life that I died as a teenage girl.  I've seen frozen far too many times.

Count me in.  Though after getting stuck with a dubious choice, I wish we could choose our own genre institutions of being assigned one.

May I make a suggestion?  If we get stuck with a sub genre that we hate, could we send you a list and you can pick from those?  I mean, not every genre is equal, so shouldn't it be fun too?

Thanks for doing this

No matter what version...Hans is a douche. I've studied that fact since the movie is on a constant loop at my house.

And, I think we're all getting the same genre this time.

I didn't get as bruised as I usually do in the last OWC. I'm game for this baby.

Plus, I've been writing two horror features -- Chupacabra, which has a draft on here somewhere, and an 80s-style slasher that's still a WIP.

And if that weren't enough, I'm fired up over the Friday the 13th cancellation and the Halloween news. I'm ready for some blood-soaked fun.

Meat Pies lol. I wrote that in a couple hours because I didn't like my first script and I remember you loved it lol.

Funnily though Meat Pies went on to be my favourite feature 'Pub Lunch', and the short it replaced turned out to be 'The Chocolatier' which is my personal favourite script, short or otherwise lol.

Scarefest then has good memories for me.

Just to reiterate(or honestly, copy and paste ) what I said on the of the horror sub-genre thread...

Tomorrow night I'm going to do the draw. I'm going to draw two sub-genres from a hat, and allow the writers to chose between the two. Or if the writer would like, they can combine the two.

Remember people, this is not an anonymous challenge. Talk about your work. I'm not saying show each other your scripts, just talk about them. Share the title and the logline, stuff like that.

Here is the list of sub genres.

Slasher
Body Horror
Zombies
Monster
Psychological
Haunted House
Supernatural
Torture Porn
Found Footage
Nature Horror
Cosmic Horror
Gothic Horror
Comedy Horror
Witchcraft
Splatter
Cannibal
Erotic Horror
Giallo
Dark Fantasy
Science-Fiction Horror
J-Horror

Good luck people.

~Zack~

I wish we could submit a few we don't want.  In my opinion, who wants to read cannibal, splatter and what is gialio?

What is dark fantasy horror? Thanks for not including such narrow genre like vomit horror and self mutilation and other random things like the Ginnea Pig series.  I don't think anyone wants to read a screenplay for Flowers of Flesh and Blood.

Oh, is it OK if we use genre that weren't chosen?  In other words, lets say slasher and cosmic are picked.  Can we use dark fantasy as the planet backdrop or say include zombies?

Thanks,
Dan

Please read my scripts:

I'm interested in reading animation, horror, sci fy, suspense, fantasy, and anything that is good.  I enjoy writing the same.  Looking to team with anyone!

Thanks
Dan

If you could find a way to add zombies to a slasher script, go for it. But the script must primarily be the sub-genre chosen.
