We’re happy to announce the launching of a new film festival in Cary, NC called  BEYOND: The Film Festival - a celebration of the many facets of the art of storytelling through film. BEYOND: The Film Festival will highlight all aspects of filmmaking, featuring a short film competition and screenplay writing competition (length – 30 minutes or less). Each year, the festival will explore a new theme and focus on some of the behind-the-scenes aspects of the filmmaking process. The theme for this first year is “Hometown Stories.” The screenwriting competition, also for short films, is based on the same theme and will explore the foundational aspect of filmmaking – the script.

BEYOND: The Film Festival will be held June 14 – 17, 2018 at The Cary Theater in Downtown Cary

Attendees will enjoy the best short films we can find, a selection of invited feature length films, a sneak-peek into the world of the bedrock of film – the screenplay, social events and more!
Screenplays must have been completed after January 1, 2016. Submitted screenplays should be for short films and should not exceed 40 pages in length and written in English. Each screenplay must follow the theme of “Hometown Stories”, but is not limited to genre. Deadline for submissions is April 15, 2018 and the submission fee is $15.

Prizes include (but are not limited to):
•     Each official selection will receive laurels
•     The grand-jury winning script will receive a table read at the film festival
•     The Festival will assist with transportation to bring the screenwriter to the festival
•     The grand-jury winning script writer will get two (2) VIP Passes to attend screenings and events

Oh Joy, oh Joy, oh Joy!

You should make the first year free. Not being able to do that doesn't say much for your business model. Seems you're more interested in making money than organising a bona fide festival.

Hi Dustin:  Thanks for the feedback.  We considered doing that, but chose to make the entry fee a low $15.  We are dedicated to creating a quality product.  Hope that you'll give us a try!

You considered doing that but chose to make the entry fee a low $15... is not a valid reason as to why you are charging for entry in your first year. You clearly don't really have anything to offer other than making a handful of naive people feel better about themselves because they've spent a day at a 'film festival'.

Anyone can set up a festival. For pennies. I could do it tomorrow if I felt like it... I also know of people that have set up festivals just to get their own film some bulshitty 'laurels' just like yours. They do it in the belief that the industry is stupid and distributors are going to throw cash at them to fund their badly-written tripe because it won a festival nobody gives an eff about. Doesn't cost anything to set up a festival aside from the rental of a screen at some decaying cinema - perhaps even given free in the hopes of a surge in popcorn sales for the day.

So what are you really offering for $15? What precisely is there to gain for the person parting with their cash? Who are you?

"We are dedicated to providing a quality product"... You can't even provide a quality pitch.

Perhaps interested people should check this out for themselves and decide if it's for them or not.
