Hey, I watched this on the afternoon showing. I liked it. It got really, really, scary, and then it got slow for a while.

Acting was good. They did a good job on casting Damien.

Most of the scares came from things jumping out at you which usualy doesnt scare me but the theater blasted the volume.

I havent seen the original but from what i have heard it sounds close to the original.

Over all I give it a *** out of *****

It was alright... Same writer as the original, so you knew it was gonna have the same feel and what not. For a remake, it wasn't bad. I thought it wasn't as creepy as the original and or maybe realistic and disturbing... but I hold that to the nice new digital picture and sound.

Omen remake (overall) 3 out of 5

Good, not great... This new Damien wasn't as scary as Harvey Stephens. He just wasn't.

I also thought it was pretty cool to see the original Damien all grown up in this one. He was one of the reporters in the movie.

I just got back from it, I was surprised how good it was, I liked the nanny more in this one, she seemed more creepy, and the art direction and cinematography were great in this, plus it had a great music score as well.  It also had some good scares and some good gory kills.

I saw this one this morning at 10:15 and just as I hoped I was alone in the theater. Horror movies should be watched when you are alone in the dark, gives it that little extra!

We watched the original last Tuesday night and I'm actually going to stick my head out and say I liked this one better than the original.

Yeah, there were some things that were better in the original, but there were also things that were better in this one.

I agree Mia Farrow was definitely better than the original nanny. She had an amazing way of looking almost like a normal old lady and then without changing her expression at all seems like, she'd look down right evil.

Pete Postlethwaite as Father Brennan, miles ahead than the original. Ugly as sin, but great actor in my book.

The Nanny hanging herself in the beginning was not as good as the original though.

This one definitely gets a thumbs up from me.

I'm seeing this tomorrow, but my mom told me that it got one star, but I hear everywhere else that this is a great movie.

I hate movie critics.

Sean

[EDIT: I'm seeing this today. I will put my own little review up once I get back]

The things I didn't like about this remake were casting issues only. The Same writer was here and he also had creative say say on the goings on in the movie, so it wasn't his doing. The problem with this movie was THE CAST. Clean, cut and dry and simple.

Julia Stiles was a terrible choice. She's fuckin' 24 years old, guys. Had 3 miscarriages... married to the ambassador. Get the fuck outta here. I'm not buying it. Sorry.

Also, again, The kid they got in this one just wasn't scary. He wasn't. He, actually, got on my nerves... He didn't have the creepy hair, eyes or overall look to him that Harvey Stephens had.

I think, Julia Stiles is what ruined my experience with the movie. I hate everything she's ever done and will continue to do so, cause she's a terrible actress and a type caster... I liked the overall movie and stand by the 3 out 5 and I feel that it did some things better than the original... but they were few and far between.

I laughed when I saw the nanny was some 10 years older than Julia Stiles... get the fuck outta here, Hollywood. Just go.

That's what I say.

Okay I saw it and I thought it was really good. Jumped at a few parts and the deaths were incredibly awesome.

This movie reminded me of Final Destination 3 because:

SPOILERS

The deaths were caused by chain reactions (except for the nanny hanging herself). And also, the deaths were seen (well sort of) in the pictures. Wait, this is a remake of an old 80s movie so I should be saying Final Destination 3 reminded me of this. Augh, whatever.

Anyways I loved the head decapitation scene and when the pastor was impaled by that huge pole and had glass slice into his face and body. I was hoping his body would slide down the pole but he just stood there, dead. I guess rigor mortis quickly set in on him after he died.

Damien wasn't as creepy as I thought he would be and Julia Stiles was a good actress (in my opinion). And the beginning was creepy also, going through the prophesies or whatever. But you'd think people would get a little discouraged by the Twin Towers clip they showed at the beginning. But I guess they did what they had to do.

Over all I give it 3 our of 4 stars due to some minor things (some of the acting wasn't it's greatest and there were a few parts I sort of snoozed out on), but it was good.

So that is my review and I enjoyed the movie no matter how much I hated that new nanny (but I thought she looked funny before she was hit by the car and I almost laughed outloud when she was feeding Damien the strawberries).

END OF SPOILERS

I have to agree about Julia Stiles not being believable as an Ambassador's wife. Maybe to a country like Chad or something, but not the highly sought after UK post.

Sean, I thought Mia Farrow was great! Lots better than the original nanny.

One reason I liked this movie better was the sound. Not that it was amazing or anything, but sound is hugely important to me in horror and this one out did the original by far.

Just my opinion.

I didn't hate her personally I just didn't like her character. (if that was what you meant). But I thought she was a good actress.

I don't think I'll ever watch a horror movie in a crowded theater again. It really ruins the experience. Not that this film was very scary anyway....

I have to give them props for staying somewhat faithful to the original . But this movie seemed really rushed to me. Maybe in the writing, the acting, or the editing. I could tell they were constantly moving through this project in order to reach the release date, which made for a very nice marketing ploy

I agree with some of the other reviews. Julia Stiles was awful. Some of the dialogue scenes between her and Liev Schrieber were awful. Especially early on. Many didn't even propel the film's story further. In conversations I heard the actors repeat themselves many times. Another reason why this was rushed. B***h ruined the film!

Liev Schrieber I like and I think his performance was pretty decent in this one. Considering he had to play a role that was orignally done by Gregory Peck whose character he played was much older.

This movie was by no means scary. Well... the bathtube sequence and the fathers strange dream sequence I found disturbing. They needed more of that. Popping out really kills the experience, especially in crowded theaters. I did get a final destination feeling from two of the deat sequences, which really bugged me. Both looked fake because the editor choose to show the decapitated/impaled bodies for an extended period of time.

I enjoyed the movie, I just hated this because it could have been so much better. This is the worst kind of movie for me to see. I can't stand when something had so much potential and falls short of it. Oh well I 'm gonna take a few beers and pop in the original again.

I just got back from seeing it and I've got mixed feelings.  I liked the acting with the exception of Julia Stiles.  She just sucked.  Leiv Shreiber I felt did a great job, the kid was okay, the nanny was freakishly annoying.  I liked the imagery and set designs most of all here.  Really gave it that creepy feel throughout, but I felt the direction was lacking. John Moore directed(Behind Enemy Lines, Flight of the Phoenix, two films that I actually did like but many others didn't), so I didn't know if it would be good or bad.  I guess it was so-so.  Execution could have been better, but overall it was a good moviegoing experience.

Oh yeah, there was an extremely poor trailer for that new Anne Hathaway movie, The Devil Wears Prada.  That had to be the worst trailer I have ever seen.  It was basically the first 3 minutes of the film(which wasn't that good anyway).  For a second I thought we were in the wrong theater

Speaking of which, funny story.  With like 20 minutes left in "Omen," a husband and wife came into the theater with 3 young children and sat down.  A few minutes later they left realizing they had come into the wrong theater hahaha.

Be excellent to each other

Dude that is what happened to me too! I walked in and I saw it playing and I was like, "Wait, doesn't t his movie come out in a few days?" And I was thinking this as I was walking up the stairs, and so, thinking it was the wrong movie theater, I walked out of it and as I walked out, I heard the announcer go "Coming soon" and whatever, and I walked back in. I was very disappointed and I now hate that movie and I haven't even seen it yet.

By the way, Greg, your avatar and Andy's siggy...they're going to haunt me...
