Just a good ol'-fashioned Rocky movie. Everything you could want, including, of course, the montage. Stallone's at the top of his game here, acting and otherwise, and Michael B. Jordan is still awesome.
Makes you cheer in the theatre and the first fight is a technical marvel. A nice solid fight film. Two thumbs up from me.
No, not nice. I demand that these indirect references to a band that shall remain nameless cease at once. My hatred of them couldn't get much higher.
On that note, I'm interested in seeing this, but am not sure if I'll spring for it in theaters or catch it after. Liked Rocky Balboa as a lighter version of the original, so I'm willing to give it a shot.
As a huge Rocky fan, I didn't like Creed. This was a rehash of Rocky 1, basically. And like most Rocky movies it contained really unrealistic boxing moments, that would never happen in a real boxing fight.
SPOILERS:
You get dropped like Adonis got dropped in Round 11. The fight is over, there is no count.
They say the other guy is way ahead of the cards but he gets dropped in round 12, which means it's a 10-8 round and he wins by Split-decision?!?!
Being a fan of the others I really enjoyed this. However, I'm mixed about some of the story, even though it warrants an old school journey, I felt it hit too many familiar notes. The love story, although sincere, didn't move Adonis any closer to resolution imo.
Some spoilers...
I loved the part when Rocky put Adonis in front of the mirror. Even though Rocky took away most of the subtext in the latter half of the short lesson, it solidifies what the sport is to those who seek greatness.
When word got at he was Apollo's kid, the way he was talked about gave Rocky lore some realistic cred. I would've liked to see some more stakes attached to it, but it was interesting to watch it unfold. Rocky could've been a little more reactive.
Did anyone else think Rocky was gonna creep through the fish tank and watch them have freaky couch sexuals?
The final rounds were great. It came together brilliantly, I won't say how though. It made me cheer for sure. Just like the first film, it ended with polarizing style leaving a huge question mark on what's next.
There were a lot of interesting storylines that weren't as prominent, I wished it would've honed in on Rocky's situation a little more. Great film though, fits in with the others.
