I have mixed feelings about this one.  On one hand, I liked it, as the action and story was strong, but on the other hand, the story was overworked and a bit dumb, if you think about it...and the way it ended, it's obvious that the filmmakers wanted you to think about it.

Ben Affleck does a good job here.  His character is "different" and he successfully pulls it off.  The other actors all do a good job, as well...I just wish John Lithgow had more to do and his character was more believable, when push came to shove.

1 BIG problem for me was the entire Treasury Department side plot/story.  It didn't go anywhere, wasn't necessary, and added a layer, and even POV's that seriously detracted from an otherwise strong plot.

The other BIG problem is the central storyline, involving John Lithgow and his company plans...just didn't make alot of sense, nor was it believable a person like this would kill and not give a shit with such ease.

It's funny, because I hear so often from critics and writers right here on SS, how they want more plot and characterization, and character arcs, and all that other happy nonsense.  It's all right here and it's exactly what brings this flick down.

I hated it.

When they showed him training with a kung fu master as a kid, I almost sprained my eyes because I rolled them so hard.

Dreamscale is right, the Treasury Department subplot didn't do anything.

However watching this movie I thought to myself, this is exactly the type of script that would have the most chance of being sold.

I loved this. My second favorite film from 2016, right behind Hacksaw Ridge. I thought Ben Affleck was great here. This guy absolutely has the chops to be an action star. Yes, I predicted that the two brothers would end up facing off at the end, but it was done in a clever way. And there were a few other twists I didn't see coming. The action sequences were very well shot, no shaky cam hyper editing bull shit here. You could see everything very clearly and it all was extremely convincing. Great cast, great action, great film. This one gets better with each subsequent viewing.

5 out of 5

I enjoyed it, obviously. But, point taken. I'm a Affleck and Bernthal fan too tho and both did a great job.

Commodus: But the Emperor Claudius knew that they were up to something. He knew they were busy little bees. And one night he sat down with one of them and he looked at her and he said, "Tell me what you have been doing, busy little bee..."
