Wow...what a pleasant surprise we have here.
This was directed by Karyn Kusama, who directed Girlfight, Aeon Flux, and Jennifer's Body. It was written by the team of Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, who also wrote Crazy/Beautiful, The Tuxedo, Aeon Flux, Clash of the Titans, R.I.P.D, and Ride Along 2 and 3.
Lots of big budget experience here in a very small Independent movie, that basically had no wide screen release.
It's best not to know anything about this movie before you watch. It is rather slow and heavy handed, but for me, both of these "qualities" made it what it is, which is a slow boil, what the fuck is going on ride that ends as a real roller coaster horror/thriller.
Lots of recognizable faces here all do a good job, although some may seem so over the top, that you question whether it's poor acting, poor writing, or just some crazyass peeps, acting crazy.
I was very impressed with this and absolutely loved the ending...especially the "very end", which turned what seems like a contained thriller into something much more.
Give it a shot and don't bow out early, as it will grow on you, if you keep your mind open.
Just watched this one last week and honestly, I hated it. Well, I hated the first half. Something just feels off. It's a very pretentious film and the dialogue is borderline cringe worthy. And it's not just a few people talking or acting oddly, it's everyone.
Once it gets going, it's okay. Lots of plot holes and head scratchers. Also, the whole thing is fairly predictable and not quite new.
IMO the ending is just plain stupid. Doesn't make sense at all (unless you interpret it as a metaphor).
Sorry to shit on this parade. I just needed to vent. I wanted to like it and I dig the concept. But my god, did I hate the execution.
