Finally caught up with this much-hyped cannibal film. Didn't do a ton for me. Great visuals and tone in service of a pretty familiar take on female sexual awakening. Claire Denis did it bloodier and nastier in Trouble Every Day, and John Fawcett did it with a lot more fun in Ginger Snaps.

The performances are strong, the central relationship of the sisters is well-designed...it's really, all in all, a solid horror-drama. And the standout scenes -- the party early on, the bikini wax, the final moments -- do show what a strong director Ducournau is. I don't think it's worth the fuss or the praise, but it's certainly worth a watch for art-horror fans.

I remember now. That bizarre trailer had me mumbling "WTF?" to myself for about 15 minutes.

I enjoyed it but it's not the movie I was expecting. Also, it's really not that gory or gross (to my disappointment). I need to see it again to know how I feel about the film. I feel like my expectations going into the theater ruined the movie for me (slightly).

Overall, I liked what it was about but not what they did with the premise. That being said, it contains my favorite scene from any movie thus far this year.

I agree that this was not really that gross or gory. Otherwise, it was fine. Not something to get excited about. Familiar territory.
