Watched the first two episodes of this on Netflix - (couldn't help it - I'm a child of the 60s).
Special Effects = A+
Acting = F
Plot = F (so many plot holes you could drop a space ship through them).
IMO - unwatchable. Sad - was so looking forward to a guilty pleasure. |

I didn't watch the old series or the movie remake. But I'd heard good things about the Netflix version so gave it a try. I lasted about 10 minutes. Terrible! (And as people on IMBD pointed out, the science is terrible, too; eg., the freezing water scene.) |

I watched the old series as a kid. They showed them during the 80s here. I believe it was on just before the Waltons on a Sunday. I hated The Waltons, but Lost in Space was pretty decent. |

You'll find this one visually stunning and otherwise stupid - like they wasted a billion dollars on production and a dollar on the script |

Screenwriters just aren't listened to enough. Everybody knows how to write a better story than the screenwriter. I've had wannabe producers telling me their misguided versions of things like subtext, like they actually understand it and I don't. So long as they're paying I have to find a way to write what they want without the story ending up as shit as it sounds. |

I've seen the Gary Oldman movie version. I have not seen the 60s series but listen to the John Williams soundtrack. This series was very popular in the 60s. I would like to know what were the appeals of it. I think it has the Fantastic-Four-Family thing going on. |

I haven't seen the series since I was a kid, but remember that it was contemporaneous with the original Star Trek. Expectations of scientific accuracy were... lower. |

I was just told by a co-worker (a real John Q. Public type of guy) that it's a must see and that he's totally hooked on the series. He hyped it up so much that I was chomping at the bit to go home and binge watch it.
By chance I see this thread and have to chuckle. I too watched the original series as a kid (re-runs after school) and loved the cheap sets, wires, and campy acting/script. The original Dr. Smith will forever be the bad guy that I compare all sociopaths (real and movies). No better example ever portrayed IMO.
As I haven't watched it yet, does anyone think that there could be any intentional camp/corn with this latest version? Or did they try to take it too serious? Or just outright bad writing? Sometimes I find it refreshing to watch something so ridiculous/unbelievable (kinda like 'Unreliable Witness' in the current challenge) that I get lost in the fantastical situation. |

IMO - not intentional camp/corn. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE what the fuck - how does that make any sense writing throughout. Acting wooden and unnatural. Some lines of dialogue cringe worthy. Won't go into specifics cause they would be spoilers. Bottom line is that there is no reason this shouldn't have been an A+ with the amount of dough they spent on and the production value is off the charts. But - to me it became unwatchable. The robot however was really cool. |

So they captured the spirit of the original series perfectly? |

A friend of mine wanted me to watch it, so I did... for about six minutes. Not my cup of tea. Not saying I was crazy about Altered Carbon, but it was more my speed when it comes to sci-fi. |

Okay, I had to see what could possibly get Dave so riled up so I watched the first episode last night. Holy shit! It was so bad I got pissed off for Netflix even putting their name to it. They should be ashamed. Dave, you were being nice. |
