From: https://www.simplyscripts.net/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?m-1539377233/There were 13 entries (!) from 13 writers. Write a 4 to 7 page (not including the title page) properly formatted short script. Theme: "Creature Feature" Genre: horror, thriller, suspense, noir, or keeping with the season Rating: PG (no cursing or excessive violence) Challenge: Create a three page comic. Each scene would be one panel of a comic. And there could be one to 7 panels per page. Visit HyperEpics.com to help you visualize your action slugs. Has Cold Feet by Jerry the Jack - Short, Horror - On Halloween, a recluse fears the trick and treating kids will meet his dead wife. Wamphyr by ? - Short, Horror - To stop an ancient evil, a band of soldiers must resurrect something much worse. So Warm The Water by ? - Short, Horror - A tormented Mariner finds comfort in the most unlikely of company. Umbra Spirituum by Pope Boniface VIII - Short, Horror, Psychological, Paranormal - Darcey and Jessy go trick or treating along with their older sister Marta. They encounter some nasty night time creatures that make them regret ever wanting candy again. Case of the Banzai Banshee by ? - Short, Horror, Noir - A private detective's investigation of a missing daughter leads to murder and a battle with a vampire. Ole Bess' Bait Shop by ? - Short, Horror, Light - Wanna catch something big? Choose the right bait. Beneath The Surface by ? - Short, Horror - Who knows what lurks beneath the surface of the deepest, darkest waters, or what lurks beneath the surface of the darkest waters of all, the Human Soul? Nanobe by Don Siegel - Short, Horror, Sci Fi - After surviving cosmic extinction, a Nanobe finds hope and new food sources on planet Earth. The 13th Leeds by Dee C. Marvel - Short, Horror - There's always a catch when you deal with the Devil. My Monster by ? - Short, Horror - The parents of a young girl suffering from night terrors, arrange a sleep over; but at what cost? Blood Diamonds by An Elephant - Short, Suspense - A guide leads a man to a cave of riches and learns some bargains have too high a price. The Boring Thing by Mr. Ed - Short, Horror - It's been working its way up from the center of the Earth for a billion years. Today it surfaces. The Void by ? - Short, Horror - Beings of infinite power and knowledge are still no match for the seduction of power. |

If this was fourteen entries I'd be disappointed at the turnout. However, thirteen is too cool for a Halloween contest to be disappointed with. Pity, it isn't a Friday also.
I am still shocked though... this is an opportunity to have something published as opposed to winning a mug. Not that the mug isn't great. You know what I mean. Very strange. IMO, every writer here should have landed on this opportunity. |

The mug is never guaranteed. It's a challenge, not a contest... I think that several things are playing into the lower turnout including the the comic format, the open-endedness of the theme, the maturation of the members, and, of course, the slow, sad, decline of SimplyScripts... Also, I didn't advertise this outside of SimplyScripts. I'm cool with this. I want to try new things which may not resonate with SSers and I'm willing to fail. However, I don't consider 13 submissions a fail. Zero submissions is a fail. tho, I do feel bad for the 52 writers I had to reject to make the numbers come out... - Don |

Well, that was a quick one.
Two, possibly three contenders for me.
It was a tough challenge, I thought everyone did well. |

I've read a few and will read the rest. I'm at a rapid chess tournament all day today so I will get stuck back in tomorrow. Or perhaps read a couple tonight. |

The 52 other writers can still submit normally. I'm busy writing for the 7WC so I'll see what I can do. Not guaranteeing anything.
And Don, don't be saying such blasphemous things. SS is not dying. It's just in hibernation like a bear lol.

I was kidding not only about the 52 other writers. And, too, about SS dying. A long-running inside joke that has been going on for the last fifteen years... - Don |

A full spectrum of entries for this OWC. Some were quite rough while others equally good. I definitely have my favorites.
Kudos to all that entered and good luck! |

Well that was a quick and easy reading list. Two were standouts for me, but I think the general quality was quite high.
Good luck to everyone than entered. |

Done and dusted. I'm not an entrant btw. Not saying that to skite, just saying it as a heads up.
It was a cinch reading through all these and commenting. I don't think anyone has any excuses for not being able to devote themselves to this lot, even if you work two jobs and have ten kids, you still should be able to manage it.
Kinda disappointed there weren't more classic Creature Feature characters, but pat on the back to everyone who entered.
Look forward to seeing the final Hyper Epics product. |

Read and commented on them all. For me, one is just perfect, one almost perfect and just needs a tweak and one needs quite a bit of work but the ending is so good I think it's worth the effort.
Well done to all who entered! Trying to write something that fits into these parameters is not easy. There are plenty of entries that had loads of potential, either as a comic or a short script, but just need a re-think. In my opinion of course. |

I'll get reading tomorrow. Still drained after the tournament yesterday and am nowhere near my normal sarcastic, hateful self. I may actually start enjoying other people's scripts and we can't have that, can we? |

Been a while since I've been in one of these things : forgotten just how good the collective consciousness on here is. Sometimes brutal, but always illuminating and a lesson in making sure you get all your pieces in place.
Special shout out to Libby and Jeff for their in depth reviews on the scripts. |

All read, reviewed, and voted on.
Sadly, I couldn't give the most entertaining of the 13 a real score, because I know it has to be a pisser...or a very poorly written script, so...the low score has to apply.
One Very good, several Good, several Fair, and numerous Poor.
Interesting challenge. |

My favourite was Ole Bess' Bait Shop.
The Boring Thing felt like a pisser. Apologies if this was actually a serious effort. But I think this one has the hallmarks of Jeff. |

Finished. All read and reviewed.
The level of creativity and the quality of writing were high.
It's the first time I've read and commented on a OWC and it was a lot of fun, almost addictive... I'll repeat for sure.
Congrats to everyone who entered and good luck.
I don’t know how to vote. Any hints for a newbie? |

My favs where So Warm The Water and Old Bess' Bait Shop.
Other's showed a lot of potential. The Void had a great ending. The Nanobe and even The Boring Thing would also work well in a comic; they just need a re-write and some extreme trimming.
