Here's my issue. It's been said many times on this forum and elsewhere not to direct the script in the script if at all possible, for various reasons. Now, I have a specific shot idea in mind, a shot I think would enhance a few scenes of mine. Now, this is a specific shot and style, and the dialogue is connected to it. I don't think another director would put it in.

The question: is it directing the script, or will it not harm the readability and compatability of the script?

The reason we talk about deleted all applicable shots from a spec script is because that's the industry norm. In other words, producers/readers/directors may not like being told how he/she has to film a particular shot.

That being said...this is just a forum for new writers to get their work out and read by their peers. I would say go for it, as long as it does not interrupt the flow of the script and does not appear every second page.

Good Luck

I wouldn't say "new" writers but for the most part MacDuff is right, who cares what people think if it is absolutely needed to get the point across... If the end justifies the means than do it.

If it supports the story in any way, forewards a joke, or enhances the understanding of a point, go for anything!

I support all said so far. While it is generally frowned upon for writers to direct the movie from the script, if there is a shot that is integral to the story and should be shot a certain way in your opinion, then you SHOULD write that into the script. As long as it is clear that directing from the script is not a habit, and this is a special exception, it will be taken seriously and won't hurt you.

Sometimes I have characters break character and look into the camera and wink, it's one of those things you're not supposed to do but I think that if it's needed and it works for the greater purpose of the episode/script/story than nobody can complain and if they do tell them where to go.
