The lights are turned on, and The FIGURE is confronted by Harry with his shot gun brandishing.  Stacy pops up at the door.

                                      HARRY
                               Who sent you?

                                       FIGURE
                             God.
-----------------------------------------------------------
My questions is when the FIGURE speaks back to Harry.  I want the voice to be a woman.  Would this be correct?

                                      HARRY
                                Who sent you?

                                       FIGURE (IN FEMALE VOICE)
                                 God.

-----------------------------------------------------
because next is...

The FIGURE extends her hand....RELEASING A BRILLIANT RAY OF LIGHT BEAM toward Harry.  So fast that Harry has no chance to squeeze the trigger.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
if i didn't tell the reader about the figure's gender, how can i write it in a better way? Please help.  Thanks guys.

Well, if its a her its not really a figure is it? Go one way or the other. To me you're confusing the reader. Maybe describe her as a BEING with feminine features. Then in you action prose you can write "It speaks with a woman's voice."

Without knowing more about what she/it is, that's the best i can do..

thanks jwent..sorry i forgot to mention the FIGURE is in fully covered black outfit.  Equipped with gadgets and weapons.  We can't tell if it's a man or woman.

My bad.

I would go with:

                   FIGURE
         (female voice)
  God.

But that's just me.

So it's not a figure, it's a Ninja.

I would call her a NINJA rather than FIGURE because I had trouble picturing FIGURE.  Then (female voice) like THE DOG said.

Phil's method seems pretty solid. Alternatively, you could probably just tell it in the preceding action element.

However, if you really want to be one of the cool kids, don't mention it at all. The use of the pronoun 'her' should suffice.

I wouldn't refer to the figure as 'her.'  You have to say what the camera records, in this case it's a woman's voice.

And I hope after all of this that the fact it's a female voice is important to the story

Kool...thanks to all.  I'm going with female voice like Phil said.  What can go wrong by simply listening to Phil?..hehe.

lol...yes it's a missing fragment and a very important twist of the plot.
