Is it kosher to end a script with a FADE TO BLACK only to continue on with an OVER BLACK and then one last line of dialogue. Does anyone see something like that working?

I don't see anything wrong with that.

Seems fine -- long as it's clear to the reader (which it would be).

If they've made it that far with the script I don't think you'd be about to lose them...

My short scripts can be found here on my new & improved budget website:

As it has been states, this is no problem at all. In fact, it is a technique I am actually really fond of, ever since seeing it used in The Usual Suspects.

You should end it with FINAL FADE OUT.

and then you add your line of dialog.

Please take a quick look at this link:

http://www.simplyscripts.net/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?b-screenwrite/

Then evaluate the descriptive thread titles that may help direct someone to a question they might also share -- even months later.

Then evaluate the relative utility of the title to this thread.

Not griping at anyone -- just saying it is something to keep in mind in the future, as there seems to be a small trend developing here.

A good thread title is almost an art form

No, I don't see that working at all.

How bout you just do:

FADE TO BLACK.

CHARACTER (VO)
Line of dialogue.

There's no need to fade to black, then write over black, then do the line of dialogue.

It makes no sense, as you have already told us that we have faded to black.

Thanks for the input, people. Much appreciated.

Bert, you're right. Thanks for the tip.
