Winner:
...Shall Be Infringed by David Lambertson - Short, Drama, Thriller - The story behind the repeal of the second amendment.  18 pages - pdf format

Runner Up:
Control by Paul Knauer - Short, Thriller - A CIA agent with a questionable past is called in to help his soon-to-be-president wife through an election night threat. 11 pages - pdf format

Huge Thank You! to Sean for running this.  This was not easy.  All the good stuff happened because of Sean.

Another Huge Thank You! to everyone who participated and were patient with the numerous technical issues and delays. More on that later.

A lot of good scripts came out of this.  I encourage everyone who participated to revise his/her work and get them resubmitted.

I encourage anyone who has read a script that must get made take a crack at writing a review to feature on the blog.

Many thanks to Don and Sean on a great tourney! Had a blast. Learned a bunch. Pushed myself to try new stuff. Positives all around.

About David... what a guy. I couldn't be more impressed with how he handled himself during the championship writing week. He was supportive and kind... even shared his outline for competitive reasons BEFORE the writing was done. On top of that, he offered (and followed-up) to help make my script the best it could be. Unbelievable.

For all the other writers, thank you for your support and comments. You made this new guy feel like one of the group. I appreciate that very much.

Sorry to Warren and TheUsualSuspects. I didn't quite have enough to slay the elDave beast. He's a force. I'll have to grow stronger, in case I ever face him again!

Best,
Paul

Congratulations to David!  And well done Paul!

It's been a few years since I've taken part, and I enjoyed every moment.

Just hearing what you had to say about David, top man, mightily impressive to hear.  Definitely a pillar of the simplyscripts community.

Thank you Don & Sean too, great job.

Thanks first to Sean and Don for all their hard work running this challenge. Super efforts.

Thanks to all who took the time to read and comment on all the scripts through all the rounds. You guys are real troopers.

Paul wrote a great script – this was a real nail-biter till the end and it could have easily gone the other way -so, many kudos to him.  Paul - look forward to your future work. There is a whole bunch of talent there! And...

Congrats Dave. Throughout the competition it always ended up your scripts were among my most favorite. No offense to myself or anybody else in the brackets, but I don't think this competition was even close. Your work was top notch throughout. Nice accomplishment.

And big thanks to Sean, Don and everybody else who participated by writing or voting to make this happen. This was a great experience with some really strict script restrictions to work with. Like a screenwriting reality show. Next year I'll be looking for it again.

It's over! I'm going to miss it. It was a lot of fun - wow, wow, wow, Sean!!! What big crazy ideas you have. Many great scripts came out of it.

And big thanks to Don for doing so much work for the five rounds!

Dave, yey, congrats! I'd bet on you to win this thing from the very first round though.

Paul, congrats to you for finishing the finals with the score, that's very close to Dave's - your work is very impressive. Quite a few of your scripts struck me as exceptional.

Congratulations to Dave and a hardy slap on the back to Paul! Two very solid pieces of work for the final judgement. Voting was close, too.

Sean - Had a blast participating and being judge/jury. Thankfully it wasn't a tie and you didn't have to be the executioner!

Congrats, Dave! That was an epic tournament and you conquered all. Paul put up one hell of a fight at the end. You both should be proud.

Huge thanks to Sean. It really was an amazingly smooth run for something new like this. And to Don who secretly has to do an insane amount of work.

Interesting that one vote going the other way would have resulted in a tie sending Sean into a self-induced coma.

Congrats to Dave for winning the Royal Rumble. Always good to be the last man standing in the ring at the end. Congrats also to Paul, who slugged it out until the end, when Dave pulled out the ole 18 page masterpiece from his trunks and banged on Paul’s head when he wasn’t looking (neither was the ref, who never is).

Excellent work by both writers here as well as many others who didn’t quite make it as far. Expect to see big things in the future from both Paul and Dave and hopefully we’ll see more than a few of these shorts that came out of this contest  produced!

Some of my scripts:

Bounty (TV Pilot) -- Top 1% of discoverable screenplays on Coverfly
I'll Be Seeing You (short) - OWC winner
The Gambler (short) - OWC winner
Skip (short) - filmed
Country Road 12 (short) - filmed
The Family Man (short) - filmed
The Journeyers (feature) - optioned

Oh jeez, Dave's gonna have a big head now.

Good on ya, Winner!

And good on ya, goodest runner up!
...

So, now the March to May madness is out of the way we can look forward to the slightly less fraught and frenetic OWC.

As one of the Red Shirts who died in the first round just to show that the tournament is serious, I’d like to congratulate both of you for getting past everything that Sean sent your way and turning in a couple excellent examples of screenwriting for an epic final.

And hawkeye, I don’t want to know where Dave was hiding that masterpiece... please don’t explain it.

Feature-length scripts:
Who Wants to Be a Princess? (Family)
Glass House (Horror anthology)

TV pilots:
"Kord" (Fantasy)
"Mal Suerte" (Superhero)

Additional scripts are listed here.

Thanks again to everyone for their compliments.

Not sure what Dave has in mind for his tourney work... but, I'm hoping to get Blood Brothers and a severely re-written Unreliable Witness made. (Rewrites to begin soon.)

Have a couple of people locally that have seen the scripts and want to shoot them, but I'd love to get interest from outside my circle.

Anybody else wanna share which tourney scripts of theirs they'd like to see made?

I’d love to see Blood Brothers made. It was one of, if not my favourite script of the tournament.

I'll play though, I'd love to see The Painter, A Generous Donation, and Retired filmed. I think Retired was my strongest script, but it would cost a bit to make.

I'd like to see my favorite submission of the tournament (okay, okay, my only submission) expanded into something a bit longer. Timmy is sitting in one of the Short SciFi and Fantasy Scripts threads right now.

Feature-length scripts:
Who Wants to Be a Princess? (Family)
Glass House (Horror anthology)

TV pilots:
"Kord" (Fantasy)
"Mal Suerte" (Superhero)

Congrats Dave, you did an amazing job this tournament and I enjoyed reading your stuff.

You too Paul, nice work, and like someone said before, if one person would have gone your way instead of the other way, Sean would be breaking a tie.
