I'm here because, having done lots of other things with my career so far, the one thing I've always wanted to do but have never done wholeheartedly is write. I've been staving it off because I know it's a long haul, and I know there's unlikely to be money in it. But it's what I actually want to do. So yet again, I'm becoming the new guy. Again.
I've written and directed a bunch of unusual TVCs and digital films for big clients. When I was speaking with a Producer at a TV company, she joked, "You know when you meet those advertising creative directors who really wants to write a feature film...". We laughed. I kept quiet.
I'm terrible at forums* - so far. I only ever lurk. I'm going to try to lurk more loudly while I'm here. I'll try to be a good citizen, because this is the sort of community I'd really like to learn from.
So... hello to all!
* and social media. And possibly any kind of human interaction.
Oh, I see you're already reading and commenting on scripts so you're doing just fine at the 'joining in part'. You get big brownie points for that already as we're a quid pro quo community.
Btw, SS is typically a little quiet this time of the year, but don't let that sway you.
Again, welcome. Any trouble navigating anything, just shout.
SimplyScripts is an amazing group of writers at all levels. You will get more from here than most screenwriting books or college courses in my opinion.
Always remember, you get what you put in. People love to help the active members so be sure to participate. Give feedback and submit your work.
Best of luck to you with your current and future projects.
Dave, I'm not sure what the old look was. But congratulations nonetheless.
Libby, Marty, Dave - thanks for the welcome. It's always a bit odd turning up at a social event where you can't see and don't actually know anyone. Hmm, that sounds a lot creepier than intended.
