Saw this on Reddit and thought it'd be appreciated here.
I've often heard of this but never read it until recently. Apparently there was an idea for a sequel to Gladiator in which Maximus is resurrected to become an avenging soldier who fights in wars throughout time like WW2 and Vietnam.
It's a TERRIBLE idea for a Gladiator sequel and obviously it never got close to getting made. But according to Reddit, Crowe actually commissioned a script to be written based on the idea and you can read it here.

But for a high profile project paid for by a big name actor, I found the script, well bland and dull. Nowhere near the quality I see posted here on these boards. It's like a really awful fan-fic, lol. Just tells me, I think, it's not what you know, it's who you know. Right? lol

I'd always thought if anyone resurrected Maximus it would be as a prequel, like a drama based on his last moments with his wife and child before being sent off to Germania, or an action showing us how he became the well respected general we see in Gladiator.
