Wow, it's been quite some time since I've seen such a monumental rape of a good book.  Hell, this makes "Congo" look like an Oscar-winner (and that's no joke... this is truly that bad).

Perhaps, this was a film never meant to be.  The book, if you haven't checked it out, is absolutely phenominal (an Crichton's best since "Jurassic Park").  The literature behind this pile of cinema trash is smart, has great charcters, and some fine ideas.  The movie has none of these.  While director Richard Donner does an alright job, it really is a bad script and some dreadfully hammy acting that really take the shit-cake here.

For whatever reason, the story was changed, as well as some major character re-development.  As for the aformentioned acting, I now have a new reason to hate Paul Walker.  In every scene, he looks like a lost puppy whom is only trying to understand what all the "smart" ones around him are saying.  I can't tell you how many times Walker asks, "What are you trying to say?"  And then there's Frances O'Connor!  If ever there was a woman deserved of a Razzie, it is her.  She plays paleontology student Kate Erikson like one of those annoying jackovasaurs from that episode of "South Park."

And what's up with Bill Gates-esque villian?  And since when can a metal pipe kill someone just from tripping (there are ways sure, but not in the sense that the movie takes it).  And how can someone from the future go to the past, stay there, and then not change the future, which is actually the present?  Christ, even "Austin Powers 2" was smarter in its explaining of time travel than this travesty (whoa, too many T's).

Besides a decent battle scene towards the end of the show, the only reason to see this is to laugh at some of the worst un-intentionally funny moments in film history.  Such a pity.

Wow, well, written SyCo.  Reading your review aloud and laughing quite hysterically all the way through, you saved me from being dragged to see it.

Thanks, man.

Shame about Paul Walker though.  He and I were practically neighbors once upon a time.  Too bad I just can't take him seriously.

I really really really disliked this film! What a waste of an opportunity of a great time travel film!!! I thought Bill and Ted's time machine phone booth was more convincing, and I'm not kidding!!!!!!

Paul Walker - I mean Mr Plank of Wood personality does my head in. I don't care how nice he looks, the guy is as wooden, if not more so now than Keanu Reeves, for me.

Why Billy Connelly? Why was no explanation given for his Scottish heritage or at least why is Paul Walker, his son, American!!?

Anyway, my old Richard Donner let me down on this project, so much so I now don't find any movie with Richard Donner's credentials beside the movie title reassuring or convincing anymore....... And this was the man who made my favorite movie of all time, Goonies... am so sad now  :'(

Chances are I won't be able to resist the impulse to see it no matter how bad it is.

Yeah, all of the bad press and hating on Gigli makes me want to see it. That and I enjoy Affleck
