Okay, I've been wondering so many times on what kind of education do I need in order to be a screenwriter. Oh, and also, do I need to go to a film school in order to be a screenwriter? If so, then what do I need and how do I qualify? If not, then what do I do? I desperately need to know.  ??)

I always thought you got the education in public and high school to write words and film school I always thought was for directing films or filming them

If they have a course to learn how to write it's most likely called english, most people use books about screenwriting, it's a lot cheaper than spending all that money on college and than finding out you don't want to do it or you already have the skills and this was just a waste of time

Kevin Smith dropped out because they weren't teaching him something that he didn't already know, it's really a personal choice, I guess

Well, I want to be an official screenwriter not the kind of screenwriter who tries to sell his script to people without an official thing that says I'm a legit screenwriter. So, going to film school should get me a degree or some sort, no?

I mean, if I just write screenplays and try really hard to sell them with nothing to back me up college education-wise, then what's the point of film school?

I don't think there's a degree to tell you that you're an official screenwriter, if you go for business and get a degree that means S*it to anyone

A degree that says your special, I could make you one that means more than what college gives you but if you want to go to have something to fall back on that's a smart idea

Me I think having a steady paying job that is secure will be good enough for when I start my documentaries, who wastes all that money to have a piece of paper that says you're special and than someone who doesn't have that paper makes millions and you get past up on

Personally I think if there is a screenwriting course it's a waste of time for anyone who knows basic english or whatever language they write in but if you go for other reasons and something to fall back on that's a good idea

Okay, let's say I don't want to go to film school. Then how do I even sell my screenplays? Who do I sell them to, and how?

Well first thing you'd do from what I see around, you would get an agent and become a member of the WGA and than after that I'm guessing your agent would either read your work or shop it around because what else would you be paying them for

First thing before even thinking about selling your scripts I'd make sure people actually like what you write because you can't sell anything if it's boring or just bad, I don't think the writer is all that much of a critic of his own work, some people will say they are the best ever but when others read it they become just another victim

Have you even wrote anything? I'd post something on these board just to find out if your screenplays are good to a audience before you even consider anything else

How would I get an agent and how do I become a member of, um, that WGA thing? What is that?

Oh, I've written some things but, honestly, I don't let many people read my screenplays unless I know that person is capable of being a logical critic.

This site is full of straight shooting critics that could give you some better reviews than just "Hey, it was good, you know" I mean if you're worried someone will steal your work, that's why you can copyright it before you do so
