Here I sit, in a booth, by a window,
Waiting.  My hands are trembling,
My heart's racing, my stomach's in knots.
I stare out into the parking lot.
I watch a family of four pass by.

I reach into my pocket
And pull out the note
That was slid under my door
Concealed in an envelope
With "From Crystal"
Written in her special style.

So many years since we last spoke,
So many years since we parted ways
And walked out of each other's lives.
A cordial goodbye and a soft kiss,
Then we were supposed to move on
And not dwell on what we had.

As I reread the words she composed,
Her words of honest feeling,
Filled with a longing that resembles mine.

As I wipe a tear from my eye,
I feel a gentle tap,
A soft, familiar nudge
On my shoulder.

I look up into the waiting eyes
Of a face that's burnt into my memory,
A face I never thought I'll ever see again.
Then comes the heavenly smile,
More beautiful than I remember.

She took my hand, stood me up,
Then embraced me as tightly as she could.

As we shared a perfect embrace,
Everybody in the cafe turned to us
But the attention bothers me none
As the woman I love is in my arms.

I couldn't let her go, I won't let her go.
We won't make the same mistake again.
With gazing eyes focused on us,
I kissed the lips of my dear Crystal,
The girl who invaded my dreams,
Swept me away, took me to places
That beats going to heaven.

A girl who I let slip through my fingers.
She turned into a memory of better days,
Memories of great times, a pure love
That I once believed was only storybook,
Because those feelings could never be real
And before her, those feelings were not real.
She made them real and filled my heart with it.

This is the one who made me
The person I am proud to be.
And now, she is back into my life,
And my world is perfect once again.

I meant to ask you, is this really what happened?  If so, wow... It's like a storybook. :)

That is so beautiful, Rob. Wow. I can only imagine how happy I'd feel if someone wrote something as precious as that about/for me.

Simply amazing  :)

Lesley,
It's a fictional story, but it's a nice fictional story.  Crystal liked it.

Andy,
Thanks for the compliments.  Crystal, my wife, has a folder with some of my poetry that I wrote for her inside it.  She takes it to work and when she gets stressed out or mad, she reads one.  Then it makes her happy.  Many of them are private ones that won't get posted in a public forum such as this.
