The movie adaptation of the best selling video game series Dead or Alive. Ha, yes this is that game with the girls with enormous boobs! It'll be really interesting how they make this movie, it was an entertaining game! It'll be out for 2006 and will be directed by Corey Yuen. For those who are a fan of the game and know the characters these will be the actresses playing them:
Devon Aoki .... Kasumi, Derek Boyer .... Bayman, Sarah Carter .... Helena Douglas, Collin Chou .... Hayate, Steve Howey .... Weatherby, Kane Kosugi .... Ryu Hayabusa, Natassia Malthe .... Ayane, Matthew Marsden .... Maximillian Marsh, Chad McCord .... Chief Detective, Kevin Nash .... Bass, Jaime Pressly .... Tina Armstrong, Eric Roberts .... Donovan, Robin Shou .... Pirate Leader, Silvio Simac .... Leon, Holly Valance .... Christie Allen!!

Are these the real actors tag to the film or just your assumption of who could play them?  I don't play videogames on the average. I haven't picked up one since well... hold on I played some game with my nephew the otherday it had some guy roaming around with a little squirl and he was stealing cars and shooting things.

Other than that and me having to sit thru hours on end of a buddy of mine playing Eversquest something or other on the PC I have no game time... I don't see the point really.

Anyways I do remember this game from like my Saturn days or maybe Dreamcast days... I forget. I don't see Kevin Nash playing Bass, he looked more like Hogan if I recall.

I'm sure they'll get a young trendy hollywood cast to play all the characters, though. I mean hell, it don't matter if half of them were japanese or not. Put some eyeliner at the corners of Tara Reids, washed out fuckin' eyes and they'll make her one of the cast. Same goes for all of them other goblin ass trollops of hollywood.

Anyways, this'll suck. It'll be just like all the other videogame to movie adaptations... which translates to having nothing at all to do with the fiber and dna of the games.

No this is the actual cast listing. Actually, I've never played the game either lol but I've heard a lot about it and seen a trailer for the game on tv.

I've got DOA 2 on my trusty ol' Sega Dreamcast.  Very fun game.  The movie should be good.

Mortal Kombat should have been good to but look at what we got here... DOA is Mortal Kombat with different characters and less blood, basically a pg-13 version. Sure it has boobs that bounce in real time (Cartoon ones, if that get's you going than I know what you're looking at while not here  ;) ;) )

I've become numb to the Hollywood market and even this market of "scripts" because you talk about them not being original but just look into this site and the same pattern they do is happening here.

I honestly don't see the point in adapting this, it's a fighting game, it has no real plot to use.

Are you KIDDING?  The core of any successful film plot is motivation to attack, and motivation to love.  The STREET FIGHTER movie starring Van Damme, and the MORTAL KOMBAT movies, were fun shows to eat popcorn to, and DOA will also be a fun popcorn flick.

I'm all for fun popcorn movies like the first "Mortal Kombat" or something like "Van Helsing."  But "Street Fighter" and "Mortal Kombat: Annihilation" are just so damn awful, that all the popcorn in the world couldn't save them.  But, I do reccomend finding some drinking games to play for either of the above or, better yet, the one I found that was invented for "Alone in the Dark."

As for "Dead Or Alive," who knows, maybe it will be decent in the way that the first "Mortal Kombat" movie was.  Like Alan, my only experiece with the game was on my Dreamcast, and while I enjoyed it, I was not a die hard fan.

And, oh yes, it should be noted that so far, I have to agree with Wesley.  It is hard to get a plotline made for a fighting game.  The "Mortal Kombat" film is probably the only half-decent one, and its story is just a rip-off of "Enter the Dragon."

I don't want to see big chested women in another film and they be the selling point, it's amateur porn if that's all you want look online because who wants more big budget disasters with girls who'll get naked for 5 bucks?

Street Fighter although I'm Die Hard for Van Damme is not a good film dialogue wise or really plot wise... Hell it's fun but it's a terrible film that could have been better with such simple corrections.

Mortal Kombat 1 was good, I enjoy it but the second one has some of the worst dialogue I've ever had the sit through... It's even got some lame played out fights that are about as exciting as reading through rants of people talking about themselves and how great they are.

SF and MK:A are beautiful movies.  Plot and dialogue weren't the point.  The point was the look and feel, and taste, of the corn, and it looked energetic, felt fight-tastic, and tasted nice and buttery.  They didn't want to write something that'd be remembered as a classic; they wanted to write something that would be forgotten until ten years later, when a young boy who likes the newest video game incarnations of the MK and SF games, browses a rental store, and randomly finds the buried treasures which are the SF movie and MK:A.  The kid eagerly rents them, brings them home, and watches them with the same wide-eyed glee he'd have during a great saturday morning cartoon.  Then he'd run to his console and play his MK and SF games with new info in his mind about the characters.  And he'll have a damn good time of it.  That's the point, and it's among the most noblest points of all.  God bless the makers of SF and MK:A -- I salute you!

I think it'll be great.

If nothing else, Cory Yuen makes a hell of a fight scene, so it should be fun.

I'd never have thought this topic would get more than 2 post... Mine and the guys response to what I said... Boy was I wrong. I think this... even this... might say something for how well this terrible idea will do as a movie.

I'm beside myself on this one. I can't believe people are saying Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat are good movies. I can't believe someone actually wants to see a DOA movie... it boggles my mind.

Wes is 100% right... there is no story to these games. It's a fighting game with flashy, catchy characters. I don't see a movie spawning from all this crap that we see nowadays. I just don't. The age ol' saying "They'll make a movie about anything" has become more profound than true... it's become a painstaking reality.

One I'm getting pretty sick of seeing.

I for one did not say they were good movies but since I enjoyed them they were "good" enough, I also enjoyed Gigli so you know how much that says about these 2 films. In fact I enjoyed Gigli a little bit more than I should have but I enjoy Ben Affleck.

If the games had a story it would be punch, kick, combo, combo damnit combo... That's about it. BUTTON MASHING.

I always reserve judgement but this time I'm just going to skip the movie altogether and pretend it doesn't exist, until than I'll do my best to kill this thread so I never have to see it again.

I'll have to wait for the trailer to see how they do it, but from what I've heard it sounds like a fun friday night flick!

When I play fighting games, I always imagine a story as I progress throughout the tournament.  DOA 2 is among the best in that regard, especially because of the beautiful characters, and the awesome fighting areas.

DOA Dead or Alive Teaser Trailer here

-Zavier

In my opinion, this looks like the greatest film ever made.  ::)

If they avoid PG-13 you could be right but if they take the R it can't officially be the best as not many people will be able to see it. That preview looked like the film was almost done as well but they hold off till next fall?

Plus it looks like they have unavoidable nudity unless they use stupid Hollywood tit blockers... I mean CGI.

Hopefully they keep the R and hopefully it turns out to be a good American martial arts type epic which it kind of looks like.

Well, that's the first time I've seen a CG bra, anyway.

I dunno, I think this will probably be almost as fun as Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter, and I didn't get to see either of those in theater so I'm looking forward to this.

If it does turn out to be rated R that'd be absolutely great, but I really don't think it will be.

Trust me they have a lot of CGI bras in films and underwear and so on when they want a PG-13 Rating later on.

Since those actresses are "hot" in the Hollywood sense and only 1 and a half have posed nude before I highly doubt it ha-ha

Anyway they have Robin Shou (The great director of Red Trousers and actor in Mortal Kombat... The only one worth watching the films for) Kevin Nash and Collin Chou (From The Matrix) it seems like they could have some good fights in the film.

They have a chance as this is not being killed by bad press as other video game films are and the game for the X360 comes out soon... The cards are lining up for this film and if they fail (Elektra or Mortal Kombat wise) they'll lose so much more than money.

Let's hope for the best and expect the worst.

Yeah, I guess I meant a CG bra that was used in a scene.

CG is used to do everything from create lingerie on women in 50 Cent videos (they're filmed nude for absolutely no reason other than that 50 thinks it's pretty dope, I'm sure) to extend Bruce Willis' towel in the TV cut of Pulp Fiction.

Cory Yuen puts together great fights, and Shou, Nash, and Chou are no slouches either, so my hopes are high for the action.  That "broke a nail" gag is old as hell, and it's a shame they put it in the trailer, but the trailer seems to be acted nicely as a whole...not necessarily "well" in the classic sense, but certainly in the way it should be.

It's going to be a mindless action flick that's over way too fast but let's hope it leaves you satisfied and not with that awful Elektra taste. I hate close up fight scenes with quick cuts. I remember listening to some jack wad say that Jen Garner was really fighting those guys and it was something special to watch and yet they ruin those fights by quick cuts and close ups? I think somebody blows way to much smoke up that pregnant girls ass... No wonder she's pregnant with Ben Afflecks child.

Anyway the movie should be worth a watch even if they do the Hollywood one liners... They need poster and lunch box quotes.

This is going to be utter garbage. I watched that trailer and couldn't help but think gee, you think maybe Corey Yuen directed this? Let's see...

A massive army wearing black and red? Hero
Said army fighting on the steps of the forbidden city? Hero
Flying through the air in a bamboo forest? Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and House of Flying Daggers
Gun thrown into air, spinning, and caught? Almost exactly the same from The Transporter.

And why does this look like a cheesy knock-off of Charlies Angels, both of which were utterly without any redeeming qualities whatsoever? Sigh.

Negative negative negative but I guess that's to be expected, they have set themselves up for all the backlash from fanboys and general movie fans alike.

Maybe you should write a fanfic... it seems to be what people do when they don't like films.

colin chou? hurrah...thats pretty cool.
but seeing as how many people that have played DoA aren't likely to be over 18
(although this could be argued for...er....voluminous bosom like reasons) why would we even consider it being R?

and by the way freak, that gun sequence looks more like matrix: reloaded.  i like to believe that everyone copied that film.

...but hey, what's wrong with a ying xiong re-enactment with devon aoki? for entertainment purposes....strictly....yeah.

actually, you know....
that whole hero sequence you're talking about is 'stolen' from twin warriors
Posted by: Heretic, November 27th, 2005, 11:13pm; Reply: 24
I was gonna say.

Cory Yuen was making films long before Zhang Yimou, and Twin Warriors did the army in black and red long before Hero (not that Yuen did Twin Warriors...that was Woo Ping).

There's a lot of overlap in kung fu, just as there is in Western action films.  There's only so much you can do.
