I liked the first book of Earthsea...I haven't read the rest yet. My only problem with it is that they keep comparing it and that sorry "sci-fi channel mini-series" to Lord of the Rings. They're all saying that "the visual effects are just as real as Lord of the Rings" and that the story is just as good...but its not.

Yeah, its a good book...but why compare it to Lord of the Rings? Thats like saying I can make better movies than Peter Jackson.  ;D

Anyway, if you're looking for a good read and your into fantasy, check this out.

I liked the SciFi miniseries and was inspired to read the series. It was good - I was kind of disappointed that it wasn't exactly like the miniseries, though. That's the result of watching the adaptation first, I guess. I only read the first book.

Even the writer of the book posted on a news website about how Sci-fi ruined her books. After she signed over the rights, they never spoke to her again, and never let her read a script, and never asked her to come down to set...they just put it together over a year, made it sound like Lord of the Rings, and then pooped it out over a million fans who, as you can read on the Sci-Fi forums, hated it.

I wish I could've been the one to adapt it...

Yeah, I heard she hated the miniseries. But as a stand-alone to those who hadn't read the books before, it was good. After I read the book, I could see why she would be so upset-- but I still enjoyed the miniseries.

Yeah, its defiantly one of Sci-fi's better films as far as quality...
