Anne Hathaway...Anne Hathaway...Anne Hathaway.  You now know what I was thinking when I Netflix'd (word?) the DVD Havoc.  This was the big film that Anne finally bares it all to the public in her first nude scene, in trying to shed her goody-two-shoes, Princess Diaries stereotype.  She did get naked, but it wasn't as good as it was hyped up to be.

Havoc is directed by some woman who I don't remember the name of.  It was written by another woman who was killed before she could finish writing the screenplay and some other dude took over for her, and the film was dedicated to the dead screenwriter.  This film would probably not even pass film school standards.  I don't remember if this film was in theaters, but if it was I feel sorry for anyone who coughed up any money for this waste of 89 minutes.

Hathaway, who is my future wife just to let you all know, plays a character by the name of Allison.  Allison is the prissy spoiled rich bitch that lives in the Palisades, but wants to be "real".  Real is apprently being a gangbanger who does drugs, steals, and gives sex at the drop of a die (get it?  The single form of dice, which has a big spot in this film).  Allison and her friends decided to hang out in East LA where the Latino gang population apparently resides.  She gets in good with one man by the name of Hector (Freddy Rodriguez) and makes frequent rendevouz with him.  Things get a little too "real" for Allison and her friends so they retreat back to their mansions and Mercedez Benz's and try to pin rape on the gang members.  This eventually causes a "big" climax that leaves an undisclosed amount of the crew dead, discluding Allison, however.

The film is absolutely pointless.  It makes no sense and has no real meaning.  Is it supposed to be an exploitation of the stuff that happens in downtown LA?  Is it poling fun of "wiggers" and displaying how phoney and stupid they really are?  Who knows, and I believe we will never know.

As for Hathaway, it just doesn't work.  She is beautiful, talented, and smart, but this role just doesn't suit her.  It seemed too forced and not legitimate enough.  Her nude scenes were a plus, but they were rare and seemed forced as well.  Especially her first scene.  It looks like the director went back and filmed a totally random sex scene, complete with a fellatio act, and stuck it in at the most random point in the film.  The supporting characters were weak, with the exception of Freddy Rodriguez.  He was the most real character in the whole film.  His calm way of forcing the girls to do certain things was frightening.

Overall, this film flat out sucked.  It had no storyline or plot.  Just a sequence of random scenes.  Anne Hathaway looked the best she has ever had iin this film, but it's a shame for what it was about.  Anne, you have the talent, you most definately have the beauty and looks.  You don't need to degrade yourself like this to prove you are a good actor.  You already are.

Hathaway was topless, which was the only good part of the movie. The movie wasn't very good, it was decent, but once you see it once, you'll never need to see it again.
