I'm sure that this movie is listed somewhere on here but I thought I'd give it a go....

American Movie is a flick about the incredible lengths one will go through to get his independent film made.  The man in question is Mark Borchardt, a hippie looking guy who is usually drunk or pissed off at the world.  He's spent two years working on his 30 minute film "The Coven" and it seems that it'll never come to completion.  Mark works at a cemetery part time, and is helped by some of the worst actors ever.  His best friend Mike Schank is there to help him at every crisis.  Mike is hilarious for the simple reason that he's a recovering drug user who is now addicted to lotto scratch offs.

Mark is truly obsessed with his film and even drags his poor kids to all night editing sessions.  While the kids sleep on the floor in sleeping bags he edits his masterpiece.  To watch this movie yo realize that for every Robert Rodriguez there are a million Mark Borchardts.  Nearly three years after starting he makes his film "The Coven" and shows it in a theater to friends and family alike.  Mark, Mike and Mark's uncle are true underdogs and at times seem to be lost souls.  Filmed as a documentary this is one of my all time favorite movies.

Released in 2000, it won the Sundance Grand Jury Prize and it's worth a watch or two.

I'm confused... Is this your movie? Or is it an idea for a script???

I know it sounds like something that would be made up but sadly it's all true.

life really is stranger than fiction.

Yeah, this is high on my list of all time favorite documentaries if it isn't at the top.  I own it on VHS, and find it completely hilarious as well as somewhat inspirational.  I'd definitely recommend renting it, or picking it up really cheap like I did, if you haven't seen it already.
