Is anybody else attempting National Novel Writing Month?

http://www.nanowrimo.com

The goal is to write a 50,000 word novel in the month of November. That's an average of 1,666 words a day.

I'm 5 days in and I've written almost 5000 words which leaves me about 3k off the pace. I've never attempted a novel before and so far it's been a lot of fun/blood/sweat/tears.

Any other Simply Scripters writing novels?

I wanted to do it this year but remembered yesterday and it was to late. I will try it next year I put an alarm on my cell phone to remind me a day early. Good luck. It is hard work but alot of fun.

I wrote a 190 pager when I started writing, and some short stories... then I turned to scripts. And now it's absolutely impossible for me to write something if it isn't in present tense.  8)

Yeah, it's an eternal struggle to keep out of present tense :)

I'm settling into it now, though. It's fun being able to get inside a character's head for a change.

If anyone's interested, you can read the first two chapters on my blog. Scroll down for chapter 1.

I have no idea where the story's heading, or even where it came from. I went into this with no plot and no plan. I picked an album and used the song titles as chapter headings. So far, my story's veering towards the dark side. No surprises there :)

That's awesome, Martin. It sounds like a lot of fun. I wish I had the time to devote to it.

Hey Martin

I read your first couple of chapters on-line on your blog, wow, really good stuff man!

Love the opening hook and how the story opens out, I think whatever happens you'll end up with a cool story here..

Enjoyed reading this..

C'mon, George, I'm sure you could crank out a novel in a week :)

Thanks, Kevan, I'm glad you enjoyed it, and welcome back to SS.

The third chapter is up if anyone's interested. I think it's taken a downward turn, but I have a feeling chapter 4 is going to be a good one.

I have a pretty good idea of my plot now, it's just a question of finding time to write the damn thing.
