SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Getting to know you, getting to know all about you...  /  Accidents Happen - Production Update
Posted by: Martin, July 6th, 2007, 1:33pm
It's taken a couple of years to get this project off the ground but Accidents Happen is finally in production. The script was picked up here on Simply Scripts (thanks Don), it's no longer posted but thanks to everyone who originally reviewed it. I'm still referring to those reviews as I'm writing the feature length version of this story. Hopefully the short will generate enough interest to get some funding for the feature.

The final budget for the short was $21, 000. Here are some photos from the shoot:

There should be a teaser trailer coming soon. I'll post updates on this thread.

Hey Martin, this looks fantastic!  I'm glad to see one of my favorite scripts from the site is making the big show.  I recall the character of James Dean being a sneaky, kind of obsessive guy, and the dude you have in these photos looks to fit that description very well.

Keep us posted!

That's really great!!

Even the stills look quality!

Hope it turns out really well and they can find financing for the feature.

I got the exact same gear, but everything I do looks like Americas funniest videos.  :-/

Just do a couple football to the groin vids and you'll be in business.

Nice job Martin!

Haha, took some "guts" for that guy to act like that.

For the longest time I thought I hadn't read ACCIDENTS HAPPEN. but I remember now. I think I referred to that guy as an Onslow type and I didn't like how you had the cake appear on the couples doorstep. You must have made some big changes to the script. I like the idea of the guy in the bookstore.

Great stuff!!  8) 8)

Thanks guys. I'm really happy with what I've seen so far.

Pia, the script has changed quite a lot since it was posted here but the rewrites weren't done by me. The ending and the beginning have changed to provide a context for the voice over and the new scenes bookend the story quite nicely. The core of the story is still the same but it's about 10 pages shorter than before and a couple of things were cut/changed for production reasons.

There are still some pick ups to be shot as well as some still photography and the voice over hasn't been recorded yet as far as I know. All the actors are union and from what I've seen so far they seem to be very talented. I especially like the casting of James.

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product.

I think it's cool how they let you have a part in the film.  You've got that "cake eating guy" character nailed!

Yeah, I had to lose a few pounds for the role and it took several weeks to perfect the death-rattle, but you're right, I think I nailed it.

Hey Martin, congratulations! I remember this script from quite some time ago. Congratulations on its production. Martin, I think you’re one of the most talented writers I know of. I wish you all the best with this.

Thanks folks.

I'm not sure what the plans are for festivals at the moment but I've heard it's tough to get a thirty minute short into a festival. Depending on how long the final cut is, maybe he can enter it as a short form feature.

I'll keep you updated.
