SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Screenwriting Class  /  Coming soon to Screenwriting Class

This is me generating excitement...promise it'll never happen again until the next time it happens.

Do you fear asking that question you're sure someone already asked?

Are you certain you read that tip somewhere before, but can't remember when it was posted?

Do you wish there was an easier way to find that post within the 450+ posts of the class board?

Well, wait no longer. There are 16 pages of posts to muddle through and multiple askings of the same question. I've pondered and pondered a way to make this whole thing easier...you know, like an FAQ.

So as I did when I first took over this board, I'm going to go through all the posts and try to clean house a little bit to make everything a little more condensed. Going to merge the similar questions together into one long post of the question being asked and answered over and over. But this time, I'm going to copy the link and create another post that will be called Screenwriting FAQ. This one will have the most asked questions (such as how do I do a flashback, how do I insert a TV/computer screen, copyrighting, how to start writing, software, the notorious "we see" topic, and of course how many pages are in a script) alphabetized by topic and linking to the post that addresses it (a lot of times in 8 or more glorious pages of posts over and over).

The goal here is that your questions get answered in the most complete way possible without digging through over 450 posts to find it, and that those of us who have answered these questions a hundred times aren't groaning so much about someone else asking the copyright question...again.

It'll take awhile...I have 450+ posts to filter through.

I think that's a great idea George.

Sounds like a big job. I'm sure everyone will appreciate your work though. :-)

My goodness George, what made you chose that as your penance?  Cutting the lawn with a pair of scissors might be easier.  Well, if the lawn is to be made with construction paper.

Well, it's something I've been meaning to do for quite some time, and considering some of the most recent questions have answers buried within the depths of this board, I figured it was time to do something about it. Besides, it's been awhile since I cleaned house.

I also think this is an excellent idea. I've found myself digging through the Screenwriting Class board basically every time I've even considered posting a new thread. I think a Screenwriting FAQ will be a lot more helpful than it sounds (and it sounds very helpful). Obviously, this'll take some time so I'll say in advance... thanks, George.

I commend your desire to help people but couldn’t folks just use the button.

Wow, that button really works!

Just kidding!!! ;D

What George is trying to accomplish is quite a commendable task, something I would not attempt. It will take a lot of time and effort to simplify all that has ever been questioned about script writing.

Good Luck, George! :o

Good call, Nixon. However, if George uses the search button, it'll make his task a lot easier too.

Good on you, George.  :)

Sure they could just use the search button...and yet, repeat posts continue and we keep answering the same questions over and over. How many pages are in an average script is a regular question. How do I copyright my stuff is asked a lot. I was surprised by how many "montage" threads there were. And flashbacks have an 8 page thread already and people continued to ask how to do one.

Yeah, there's a search button, but its users are in the minority...or whatever term they search for isn't found. After all, a lot of people just ask "how do I do this?" and don't realize they just have to search for "slugline."

ONe year, we all dressed up as Wesley and (fill in the blank) for "costumes". That was very, very confusing for all involved.
