SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Things you are looking for  /  Seeking horror movie scripts..

..Any that some of the horror writers who lurk amongst us may reccomend. I'm sure that most people here started out by reading scripts before starting their own (Actually, I assume we all did) - so to the horror writers on the boards, what scripts do you recommend that an aspiring horror scriptwriter should read?
Even if you don't have links to any (which would be preferred if possible), any recommendations of what I should search out to read would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Alex

Check out this thread...

It's a large list of scripts, in all genres, recommended by other members.

Are you looking for slasher horror, gothic horror or other horror?

Both Slasher and Gothic. The piece i'm working on combines part of each of them, since I'm trying to break the general stereotypical horror stories that we say reincarnated under different names all the time.

If I can get hold of different styles of horror scripts, I can broaden my own a little, which is what I'm looking for. So it doesn't matter greatly whether it's a slasher script, or any kind of horror script - as long as it knows the basics of how to build suspense and shock people, I can learn a lot from it.

Sorry that didn't particulary narrow things down a great deal, but as I said, any good horror scripts you happen to have from any subgenre would be greatly appreciated. So thanks in advance for any you can provide.

Alex

(And if you're unsure how I intend to combine different horrors, then I'm doing my job well by getting you interested, haha.)

Buckets of Blood http://www.simplyscripts.net/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?m-1180090215/ was a collaborate effort by four members here. It's four shorts put together.

The first one is a Ninja vampire script by James McClung. The second one is a ghost story by Zombie Sean. The third one...well, it's extremely violent and gory and has some nice disturbing visuals. It was written by Jordan aka TheBoyWhoCouldFly. The last one, "Dark Side of Man" was written by me and has some disturbing stuff in it as well. Check it out.

These four scripts are all very different, but one of them might be to your liking.

I have two gothic horror shorts in my sig, down below.  One is in post pro-duction and the other is in pre-production (maybe pre-pre-production)

Sorry I thought i'd replied to this already. Thanks Phil, I read both those shorts, and found them rather helpful to bettering my own work. I really enjoyed the one with Sawyer and the dogs that had been put down. So thanks, some of the content proved rather useful. It's given me a few new ideas.

I'd appreciate it if you could review the scripts on the appropriate.  Simple praise from strangers is the only pleasure I have left.
