SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Getting to know you, getting to know all about you...  /  I never introduced myself

sorry. I've been using this site to read scripts for atleast two years but only a week or so ago discovered that it has a forum. I am a bit leery of forums since I used a social one for years that ate up way too much of my time, so that didn't prompt me to join. I guess it was the thought that I could get good feedback.

Ah, now I remember, I used google to search for ideas on outlining and beat sheets when it led me to a thread. I browsed and saw a really interesting discussion/debate about following the rules of screenwriting or taking a cue from "the big boys" and include character thoughts, "ing" endings and "we see".
Billy Mernit, writer/rom-com writing instructor, wrote his opinions in a blog on the same topic here:  http://livingromcom.typepad.com/my_weblog/2009/03/half-of-everything-we-learned-is-wrong.html
   and here  http://livingromcom.typepad.com/my_weblog/2009/03/the-genius-of-bad-writing.html
  :)

Anyways, it's a good debate but I don't think newbies should throw out the rule books before learning the craft first... Master the craft before getting too "crafty"

I think it took me six months to discover it had a board when I started. I clicked on the link next to one of my scripts that said "Discuss this script," and found there was a whole thread devoted to just me. Not that it got read or commented on before I joined the board, but there it was.

But I had submitted two feature length scripts before I knew there was a board to chat on.

Welcome to you, and enjoy.

How do you do that, submit features, I mean? When I clicked a link to do that I got the OWC contest submission only. I haven't actually written a feature but I plan on completing one within the next two weeks so I'd love to know...

It's the same form. You just fill out your info and upload or link to your file and that's it. There's just a notation at the top for the OWC right now. Fear not. It will get to the same place.

EDIT: Just peeked and it looks like the OWC is the rule for the moment. Once that is over, the regular submission form will be available again off the unproduced page at: http://www.simplyscripts.com/unpro.html

Ah! LOL! thanks. Hey do you think I could fix up the errors and resubmit? it was first draft and I had transferred from Celtx to Final Draft and parts of the script might have suffered...
Also i think some scenes needs fixing. It was all written in one go without an outline so...

As long as you enter a message stating that it's a rewrite, you can. We don't want to make a habit of that, of course, cause Don's a hard working guy, but every once in a while, we screw up what we send and have to do it again.

K, I just made some quick fixes. Hopefully he'll accept it... :)
