I'm writing a script where someone gets caught in one of those rope traps that pulls you up and hangs you by your feet. What are those things called? The rope trap? I don't know how to describe this at all. Please help.

A snare?

Man... my mind is blank when I try to think of how to describe it. It's like a lasso laying flat on the ground(camoflauged with leaves or whatever). When you step in it you get pulled up by your feet to hang. Is that a snare? How do they work?

Um, i guess the rope is tensed and it whips up when you disturb it and next minute your arse is in the air. something like that. just write snare in your script and the readers will know what you mean.

Anyone know how they work? Should I even go into detail about how it works, or just write that the dude is caught in a snare?
