SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Screenwriting Class  /  For all you horror or thriller writers...

So I'm on Inktip, and my logline was viewed multiple times by a company called Thunderball Films.

I looked them up on IMDB and they're active as far as develping and optioning scripts; however they appear to be exclusively in the horror/thriller genre, and I write comedy, so there's no match there.

Their website says they accept query letters (or e-mails, I suppose), so I thought I'd throw this out there for all the SS members who write in the horror genre.  Pitch them and see what happens?

This one time I wrote a shitty script full of junk bunk shit but my log line was kick ass and had nothing to do with the script at all... People loved the log line but hated the script. I wonder why? I also wonder why I can't sell my log lines... They're really good.  "kicks rocks"

Anyways, if you talk to these people ona daily basis like I use to do... You'd understand there is a shift in the industry where, if you're not in the union or taking active part in the turning of the wheel, you've got an uphill battle when it comes to selling your script for 6 figures... the most anyone here or there will sell there script to is an independent... I've sold a few scripts in my day to College kids and independents and it was enough to turn me off from actively pursuing Hollywood...

Ink Tip and all them sites are good outlets for the writer to stay active in certain circles, but trying to sell to the majors with a bum knee or elbow is another matter all together.

Not saying you can't... Just saying Hollywood won't come calling anytime soon. The business is ran by a panel of people who've been embedded to do so.  Ask yourself why the same actors get all the roles.  Ask yourself why the same 6 writers are writing all the big movies today...

When you do, you'll see what I'm talking about.  They've shoe horned Hugh Jackman into so many goddamn roles it's not even funny... It's absurd is what it is.  When's the last time you seen an independent, such as myself or yourself, sell a script for 1 million bucks?  If you have it was a lie and a prefabricated story by Hollywood to make it seem like they're allowing others into their fold.

So, my little rant coming to a close here, pitch your movies and work hard on them... Network and do all those things like contest and buying new books and software for your craft; hell take some workshops even... Just don't go quiting' your day jobs or losing your eyesight to the blinding lights of Hollywood.

It's a little dirtier and uglier than you might think.

I know it's ugly out there. Got a taste of it this myself this past summer, however some people do make it. The guy that wrote ARMORED is a member at DD and everyone's been following his story.

This is a link to a blog he contributed to
