SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Getting to know you, getting to know all about you...  /  Into The Fray - An Introduction

Hi, my name is John and I’m a screenwriter. Well... not yet, but I am aspiring to be. So I guess this is the support group for those who have a similar addiction to writing? I certainly hope so because I want to learn as much as I can and have my work torn apart.

I've only written one script to date and to be honest I haven’t quite gotten the feedback I had hoped from family and friends. I mean, I couldn’t have written a masterpiece my first time out. In the coming days I hope to submit it and have others give it a critical read and critique.

I just started on my second script and it seems to be going a bit smoother than it did during my first script. I spent about a year working on that one, with many false starts and jogging down dead ends only to have to retrace my steps to find the story again.

I’m glad I found this site and this discussion board as well as looking forward to participating in discussions and learning from all you fellow members and seasoned pros.

Hi John,

Welcome to Simply Scripts- you've come to the right place.

Hope you get as much enjoyment (and also helpful advice) as I do!

Look forward to reading your work

To avoid all this try to outline your script the next time....

Looking forward to read something from you...........................

Hey John,

Welcome! If you immerse yourself in the material here you'll have a great time and learn a lot.

As far as feedback from family and friends, they're actually the worst people to get it from - (a) they're afraid to be honest and (b) they know you too well and won't be able to separate the author from the material.

My wife doesn't read my stuff, and to date I've only shown my work to a relative by marriage and one friend.

If you think you're ready, post your work here and you'll get honest and (hopefully) constructive feedback. The important thing is to give feedback to those who write in your genre, so they're more apt to review your stuff in return.

I ended up having to go back and do that. I am spending more time on this process with my second script.

They just listed my script here and I hope to get some great feedback on it.

Thank you. I have read a ton of great stuff on here already and I am about to start reading scripts by other members. The only problem I have is critiquing the work of others when I am so new to it myself.

I have spent several years reading and studying the craft but I don't want to sound pompous or act as though I know it all. I started one script that had a lot of technical mistakes or things that I have heard turn professional readers off and didn't know what to do or how to say it. I guess I just need to jump in feet first and see what happens.
