SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Getting to know you, getting to know all about you...  /  Hey there, I'm Josh

I'm new here, I've just been checking out some of the scripts that are on here. I'll review some when I read through them completely. I'm the kind of person who likes writing and being on the technical/directing side of things as well. As I am still in high school, I enjoy working with theatre. I was in my first show ("Alice In Wonderland") when I was in 8th grade and this weekend the Middle School did "No Strings Attached (A Pinocchio Story)," and I was the Microphone Technician and Backstage Production Assistant for that show. This spring I will be taking the role of Microphone Technician and Student Director for "Cinderella," in addition to show night Backstage Production Assisting.

I like writing mysteries, writing about things that affect my life and other people's lives on what could be an everyday basis. Right now, I'm working on a short that is about a kidnapper turned serial killer and I've got my list of other ideas that I would like to turn into a screenplay or stageplay. I would love to write comedies, but, I am kind of suckish at doing so, any help and assistance with any of these areas would be great!

EDIT: About what I like to write.

Hi Josh,
Welcome to the boards. It is  nice to see younger people post here. If you have something you would like to post and have reviewed, this is the place.  There are also several people here who are on the Tech end of film making. A couple are in the process of doing their own movies.

Best of luck to you and again - WELCOME...

Thanks Matt and Shawn! I don't feel that I am far enough along in my script to post it on here yet, however, the script that I mentioned above I have began to re-write from scratch and I'm also working on another one, which is a more emotional and hits close to home.

The first one is going to be called, "The Randsome Note" and the second, "Romantically Dysfunctional." Yes, Ransom is purposely spelt wrong..and I've been told the second sounds "dysfunction," which is the truth..

Hello Josh and welcome to the boards!!!

I'm pretty suckish at writing scripts in general, but the people here draw me into their hell. What can I say? :)

It's interesting to hear you say that you feel some difficulty writing comedies. You know what happens to me? Whenever I start out trying to write serious...

I do well for awhile, but then it happens. This muse comes out and messes with me. Truly! It's like I can count on it almost now for certain. It's better if I plan on the opposite. Kay. Sandra wants to write comedy. Okeys... then she needs to plan on the ultimate serious subject and "Voila!". She can be certain to enjoy the doozies that will inevitably come along. I'm hopeless. Can never stick to a plan. There's gotta be a "Help Board" on Simply for people like me. :)

Anyways Josh, I want to sincerely welcome you and let you know that the people here will do all they can to give you honest criticism.

haha. I tend to read these scripts and like them, I was reading the boards for a while before joining. I like some of the content on here and it will just take me some time to write up a review of a couple of them.

Yea, I do really tend to have trouble writing comedies. If I were to work with, say, a co-writer (two people that I am friends with come to mind) it would be super duper easy to write a comedy with them. I guess I'll give it a try when I finish these two scripts.

Thanks for the warm welcomes and when I get something solid done on one of these two scripts..I will be sure to post them. It'll be awhile, as I am doing some Student Directing for our Middle School spring production (I'm a Junior in High School) and we start the third-week of next month.

Lastly, the second script is only in the "Brainstorming Phase".

Welcome Josh... always good to have some young blood.  You'll learn a lot if you stick around.

Welcome Josh.

Hope you stick around. I've seen some people here that were your age grow into really great writers over the years. There's lots to learn and it might take some time, but it's definitely doable.
