Here’s the first look at a movie I’m personally looking forward to. I love the books by Lee Child. This is based on the book “One Shot” which is one of the best in the series so far.

Although I have to admit that I can’t look past the horrible casting of Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher.

Still looking forward to see how they tackle what could become a big franchise for Paramount.

Yeah - Cruise is a knob. I'd like to have seen Christian Bale have a go. I'm guessing even from the trailer that they've changed dialogue lines to suit Cruise.

Lee Child tries to explain how 5'7" Cruise gets to play 6'5" Jack Reacher. Too rather a lot of laughing.

Aws much as I love the books and think that it isn't a big of a deal that Cruise is cast as Reacher (remember - folks said the same thing back in '93 when Cruise was playing LeStat in Interview With A Vampire) as long as the essence of a character remains and the actor is decent (which Cruise is) I have few problems at this early on.

My problems are that it should have been called One Shot or simply Reacher. I think the current title is a mistake, as is the teaser trailer. See, folks have seen the Transporter flicks. Last year we had Drive. That's the vibe I get from this....thing called a trailer.

I'm sure the film is alright, but I think the early marketing is not doing it any favors.

I don't get the super car angle and jerking off the shifter. :P
Wasn't Reacher a David Banner type in how he went from place to place?
To me, the clothes on your back hero on the road, feels much better.
So, I'll take that Chevelle, thank you! ;D

You're right, Brett. In fact, I don't even think Reacher has a driver's license and rarely drives unless he has to.

All he carries is his bank card, passport and a trusty toothbrush. ;D

I agree with Darren about the title. Think "Reacher" would have worked.

Despite the blatant departure from the source material...
I have to say this trailer piqued my interest quite a bit.

How about you?

Like the look of both trailers (the first one moreso), but think they're feining (a link for people too lazy to search: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=feining) for a Taken-esque phone call moment a little bit too much in trailer 2.

E.D. please back-track for fear of dumping your uber-status.

Cruise cannot and will never cut this kind of role - he's a clean cut guy where you can chuck a couple of issues in. Okay, they re-played the trailer and came up with something better, but really? Reacher was an a$$-hole where you're deliberately meant to have moral conflicts (I'm thinking along the lines of Punisher, failings accepted).

Cruise can never cut this. Ever. I understand that they're trying for popular appeal, but that doesn't repair a fundamental error. Cruise is a moderately good actor who appeals to the masses. The whole Reacher stuff was about something completely different. And doing an occasional 'cute' bit doesn't hit the note.

A much better trailer for sure, I really liked that they showed some true Reacher traits, although I agree with my friend, Mr.Colligan above. Cruise doesn’t cut it, he doesn’t have the rough demeanour that this role requires but I’ll wait until the movie arrives until totally disregarding him.

I for one, even with Cruise involved, hope this that this franchise can continue after this one, so I’m hoping it does well at the box office.

Yeah, this was like casting David in the role of Goliath.  Reacher's hulking size and strength plays an integral role in the stories, so seeing Cruise fight that gang of street goons Jason Bourne-style didn't inspire much confidence in the flick.

And the title sucks.  Shoulda stuck with One Shot.  Reacher would've been okay, but Jack Reacher?  Maybe he's friends with John Carter.  Anyway, I'm sure it's the studio's attempts to make it easier to connect all the inevitable sequels together.  I'll wait for the Netflix.

I remember when it was called "One Shot" and couldn't help but think it was a comic book movie (I wasn't familiar with the source material) but I found out it was different.

I'm not going to tell you guys that you're crazy for wanting it to be like the books because I was definitely guilty of the same thing in regards to "World War Z" but I will say this: to this point, McQuarrie hasn't let me down.

P.S. As a side note, when I see the title "Jack Reacher", all I can think of is the Jack Slater series from "Last Action Hero" and it makes me laugh each time I see it.

Hey Simon!

I've never read the books and know that Cruise is ill fitting on many levels...
But I am hoping this trailer is indicative of some good qualities for the film.
Though I'm sure they won't have much in common with the Lee Child novels.

Hell, I'd settle for a good fun blockbuster these days! ;D

Hopefully box office returns will be sufficient to yield "Jack Reacher: Round 2"...

Well, if you exclude Lions for Lambs, Mr Tommie is always a box office guarantee.

I'll agree with E.D. - I'm always happy with a good ol' blockbuster, and sure, it doesn't look too bad in itself, as long as you suspend the right bits of disbelieve just long enough ...
