SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Screenwriting Class  /  Act breaks in Celtx software?
Posted by: CrusaderVoice, February 5th, 2013, 12:08am
This is probably covered somewhere on here, but I scrolled through a couple of pages and am too lazy to scroll through more...sorry.

Is there a way to format Act breaks correctly in a single-camera sitcom format on Celtx software? I know they should be centere, underlined and in CAPS, right? There doesn't appear to be an option for that.

The obvious solution is to invest in some software and not use the free stuff for this. But that's something I can't do right now or do in the near future.

What other options / tricks can I employ to make this look right using Celtx? Or is there something else free I should try?

Get rid of Celtx...

TRELBY is free writing software that blows Celtx out of the water.

I used Celtx for two years until someone here turned me on to Trelby.

Night and day differience.

Thanks guys.

I'll try the keystroke...but I was also nosing around the Trelby site after I did a web search.

I appreciate the heads-up.

It's a little tough to fire up a topic on software because someone new probably starts one every so often. I really did look for awhile but didn't find one.

Thanks for putting up with the question.

I'll let you know that Trelby has several distinct advantages over Celtx.

Reports-
Retrieving reports may not seem like something that makes a difference but I've come to learn that it is.

Things like scene reports, dialog reports, ect...

Also the pagination on Trelby is much better. It gives an almost exact text to PDF translation where Celtx is real Kentucky windage. I've seen Celtx conversion to PDF vary as much as 12 pages when converting it to PDF.

I also encountered several instances where you would have misrepresented lines with Celtx.

What I mean is a slug would be an action. A dialog would be a slug. Messed up stuff like that.

With Trelby, none of it. Good reports, exact PDF conversion, and options on how you want the file saved.

All good stuff.
