This is tough movie to write about.

There's a lot to like about Monsters University. It's fun. It's a GOOD movie.

The problem is, "good" is not what Pixar does. Pixar does "great." And Monsters Inc. was one of their "great" films. Monsters Inc. was inventive, had great laughs throughout, a rich backstory filled with a cool mulit-dimensional world. The voice actors were perfect and they made the characters come alive. It appealed to a variety of age groups.

Monsters U. doesn't fall short in terms of how it was voiced, we know the characters and they're fun...it just didn't have the same feel as it's predecessor. Maybe it was because we had already seen this world that was so inspiring the first time (sort of like how I felt watching The Hobbit - this would be amazing had I not already been here three previous times in The Lord of the Rings). I don't know. It's amusing but there were very few big laughs...and I saw this with a theater full of people of all ages and their reactions were like mine - amused but rarely LOL-funny reactions.

It's tough. I LOVED Monsters Inc. I ended up just sort of liking Monsters U.

I'm with you on this...I super loved Monsters Inc...infact I have a huge collection of Sullys and Mikes...and one Boo....BUT this M.U. was just 'ok' for me. It didn't have that special feel like the Monsters Inc did.

Monsters Inc is one of my favourite Pixar flicks.  It was epic.  Funny.  Great.  I agree.  Monsters Univ. was so fun and it had a few laughs and it was an interesting take, with it being a sequel.  But I have to agree that it was a good watch, but not great.  Funny, but not as funny as the first.  Overall, I liked it.

Yeah Monsters Inc is probably my favorite Pixar flick as well (second only to Wall-E).

Saw this with my mom last week. We both enjoyed it. As everyone else stated, it's no where near as good as Monters Inc. But it's nice to be back in that universe. I thought their journey into the human world was both unexpected and surprisingly deep. I also liked the little montage at the end chronicling Mike and Sully's journey to the top.

There are a few problems with creating a prequel to this movie...

-no Boo
-nothing's at stake. we all know what's going to happen.
-no overarching message about renewable energy (which really made Monsters Inc stand out for me since it was trying to say something)

Overall a good time. Kids should love it. But no where near Monsters Inc.

But hey, it was better than Man of Steel
