SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Getting to know you, getting to know all about you...  /  Active Members?

Hello, I'm new to the discussion forums although I've been visiting the site itself for quite some time. I just posted a screenplay on here and so of course I joined the forum.  I've been on many other forums, and know that in order to get feedback you must give feedback.

Just looking for some of the active members to hopefully pop in here and let me know who they are, so I know who's scripts to read and can know that they review other people's scripts and that they are active members of the community.

Thank you in advance.

A little about me: I'm only 18 (turn 19 in December) but I've been writing since I was eight years old. I had a short story published in a horror magazine when I was eleven. I have always loved movies and Quentin Tarantino was my favorite director when I was six and Steve Buscemi was my favorite actor. That's a story my mom loves to tell. Since then I've been obsessed with movies and decided to give screenwriting a shot a couple of years ago.

I am a bit busy, I just moved in to a house this year with my  girlfriend and am in my second year of University studying Psychology and Philosophy.

I feel I have some natural talent for script writing but still obviously have LOADS to learn. I still need to hone and develop my skills and so I came here in hopes that some more experienced writers could help me out and so I could read and review other scripts to also help my own skills.

I have written one short screenplay, a spec script for Boardwalk Empire and the feature script "Gangsters Never Die" which is on the forum in the drama section.

I look forward to reading your writing and sharing my own,

Regards,
Seb

I guess I'm what you call active, currently more as a reader versus a writer, as I'm busy working on a few different filming projects at the minute.

Good man for studying psychology as well. I just finished my Masters in psychology, hence more inactivity with writing. Where do you study?

I would recommend going through a few different threads where scripts have been posted, and seeing which names keep popping up, as this is the best way to get to know the active members here.

Welcome to the site.

Welcome to Simply Scripts, Seb.

The best way to see who's active is to click on the "Portal" button towards the top of of the page.  This will show you what threads were most recently commented on, and who commented.

You'll see a couple names pop up regularly:  Dreamscale, alffy, wonkavite, dogglebe, Angry Bear, Ledbetter, reaper, and nawazm11 to name a few.

To make it easier for others to find your script, you can post a link to it in your signature.

You have the right idea of giving reads to get reads.  That kind of attitude will take you far here.

Welcome, Seb.  Always cool when new peeps come right out and introduce themselves like this.  It goes a long way.

I'll take a peek at your script, but no promises to read more than a few pages.

Good advice from the others - comment on scripts that have current/recent activity.  Make sure the writer has responded to feedback.  Be honest in what you say and don't feel the need to sugarcoat.  Lots of posts in which peeps just ask general questions that take off, so get involved there,as well as the movie and TV review threads.

Big October OWC coming soon, so pay attention and jump in, as it's really the best way to meet writers and get a whole bunch of reads and feedback, as long as you provide the same.

Best to you, bro!

OWC = One Week Challenge.

You have one week to write a short script based on criteria determined by whoever runs the challenge.

The last One Week Challenge was a complete mess.  The moderator had no idea what he was doing.  It was like watching Old People-Midget Porn.

Not that I know what OP-MP looks like.  I swear.

Actually, Dreamscale ran the last OWC and it all turned out pretty well.

Damn.  My mom wouldn't even let me watch Married with Children.

Hope you enjoy the site, I have a feeling the OWC this time around will be pretty good.

Later,

Hello Seb and welcome to SS.

Well I hope you participate in the upcoming (i hope) OWC.  It'll definitely be a great way to throw your name into the mix.  Catch ya later.

Thank you everyone for the nice welcome.

To Toby: I studied my first year at the University of Toronto, but moved to a smaller University called Nipissing.

I wanted to get out of Toronto, too busy all of the time. Plus where I am now reminds me more of my hometown (which is only 40 minutes away from Toronto). More quiet and peaceful, but still a city. I'm Canadian obviously.

And yes, I did a little looking around on the OWC before I signed up. Part of the reason why I joined the board.

And I know you're joking, but still feel I should clarify. I didn't mean to apply that QT is so yesteryear, just wanted to use that as an example to emphasize my love of movies and how long I have loved movies. And not just Disney either.

I am busy usually during the week, not too too busy. But I'll probably do most of my reviews on the weekend. I also get a week off starting Friday, so that's a good start.

Welcome Seb, I hope you enjoy it here, I'm sure you will.

I don't like the phrase, 'welcome to SS' as it makes me think of something completely different...something about the war lol.

Anywho, welcome to SS, Seb...ah bollocks!

Hey Seb!

I've got some friends from North Bay area, actually. Well, I did in Vancouver -- I've just moved to Calgary.

Are you thinking double major? I'm minoring in Philosophy because my university is so small that they don't offer a Bachelor's for it.

I'll check out your feature when I get some breathing room.

No, I just fill all of my leftover credits with Philosophy classes. I would have majored in philosophy but my mom is a PhD in Philosophy and a Law professor so I find it tedious sometimes learning about a lot of stuff I've already known for most of my life!

I know this is weird, but I actually would dissuade anyone from reading my script. I want to fix the formatting and do a lot of edits. I wrote this one before I downloaded a script writing program.

And ahaha at the SS thing. I also thought that when I first saw it.
