Hey, everyone.  :)

It's probably been done to death, I know. Sorry about that. But seems as I'm new here, what better way to get acquainted with a forum full of film buffs than this.

So, what're your all time, favourite films? Feel free to list as many as you want.

Just in case anybody cares, here's a few of mine...

1. Mysterious Skin
2. Fargo
3. Super
4. In Bruges
5. The Loved Ones

Hey Levon, welcome to SS!

Nice icebreaker, Fargo is an amazing film.  I haven't seen the bottom three on your list, what makes them your favs?  Might have to check them out...

The Loved Ones is twisted.  A must-see.

As for me, I'm a fan of The Passion of the Christ.  Most profound and significant movie ever made.

Then there's I Saw the Devil, Oldboy, No Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and Lady Vengeance.

All great filmmaking in their own right.

Welcome to the boards, Levon.

Here are some of my favorites:

Pulp Fiction
Goodfellas
Paris, Texas
An American Werewolf in London
2001: A Space Odyssey
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

Thanks, Johnny. :)

Well, Super is a superhero/black comedy. It's similar to Kick-Ass but IMO, a lot more witty, and a lot more touching. I don't know if you're in Britain, but if you are, it's on Film4 quite frequently.

In Bruges is a black comedy/crime/drama. The two main characters, Ken (Brendan Gleeson) and Ray (Colin Farrell) are really well written. It's really just a funny, charming, well-written, well-acted, well-directed film. Farrell even won a Golden Globe for his performance in this.

The Loved Ones is an Australian horror/comedy. It's a lot like Stephen King's Misery. Just a lot more OTT and satirical. I also really liked the set design, bit random, I know. Just a warning, it's pretty gory, brutal, and... weird, sometimes, so if you're easily offended, I'd give it a miss haha.

What are some of your favourites? :)

Hey, Silverback.

Never actually seen Passion of the Christ. I think there's a film that's similar called 'The Stoning of Soraya M.'. I didn't have the stomach to watch it myself...

I've seen Oldboy, it was an experience haha. How do you feel about the remake? Hate to be judgemental, but can't help feeling it's gonna be another Hollywood revenge flick. Haven't seen the others, unfortunately. :/

Hi, Crooked.

Nice list. I've only seen Pulp Fiction, Goodfellas and An American Werewolf so I can't comment much on the others. I don't know if your familiar with the documentary 'Room 237', but it explores the theory that Kubrick may have helped fake the moon landings. Quite extraordinary stuff. Anyway, it goes into some detail about 2001, might be something you'd be interested in if you haven't seen it already.

I think it'll be all right, but probably won't hold a candle to the original.  Oh well.   Yeah, The Stoning of Soraya M. was definitely harsh.  I wanted to reach inside the TV and rescue her when she was getting stoned to death.

Thanks for the info, sounds like good flicks.  I'll check them out for sure.

As for my favs, well... it is what it is.  My all time favorite film, Dr. Strangelove, is in category by itself with Unforgiven directly below it.  Others ones are

Purple Rain
Fargo
The Shining
The Last Dragon
Goodfellas

It sounds like Kubrick's popular round here, haha. The Shining? You should definitely watch 'Room 237' then. Really interesting!

Nice to see Fargo up there too!

"The heck d'ya mean?"

Hey Levon, welcome! Great way to introduce yourself, and anyone who includes In Bruges in their list of favourite films is alright by me ;)

Some of my favourite films, in no particular order are:

- City of God
- In Bruges
- La Haine
- Oslo, August 31st
- Gone, Baby Gone
- The Lives of Others

... Yes, I'm aware that's six :D

If you haven't seen In Bruges, I cannot recommend it highly enough from a screenwriter's perspective, as the dialogue in the film is some of my favourite ever committed to the page.

Looks like I'll be Netflixin'

Sheesh, top 5 is hard for me. I have so many favs but to narrow it down...

I'd def rank The Shawshank Redemption right up near, or at the top for sure. The rest I'll have to think on.

Seems like the Coen Brothers are popular round here too. Just watched Miller's Crossing last night. Another great Coen flick. And as you can tell by my avatar I'm a fan.

Hi, all!

Toby - The Lives of Others is in my Netflix list as we speak, I better get round to watching it. :D And I totally agree about the dialogue.

DV44 - Love No Country! Javier Bardem is so badness in it. I just searched Zodiac, sounds good :o with Fincher directing, i'm sure it is :D

It's nice to see the Coen's are so popular. Burn After Reading is, in my opinion, one of the most underrated films they've done, so anyone who's a fan, check that out if you haven't already. Same with A Serious Man.

Thanks for all the replies guys, keep 'em coming ;)

Mean Streets
Goodfellas
The Roaring Twenties
The Big Sleep

Were the first to come to mind....

Welcome, Levon.

Loved Ones is a great little flick that really packed a whollup and came off as totally unique,m even though it was far from it.

My faves?  Well, let's see...have to include...

Hostel (and Hostel 2)
Outlaw Josey Wales
True Romance
Eyes Wide Shut
The Abyss

Obviously many more could/should be included, but that's the short list.

Great to see you jumping in and reviewing scripts - it's the best way to make yourself known and very cool.

Welcome to the boards, Levon. Reviewing scripts with the kind of fervor and detail you've shown since arriving here is an outstanding way to get started and make a good first impression. Kudos.

All time favorite film lists never get old. These are the ones that ALWAYS end up on my list.

The Fly (1986)
Dead Ringers
Oldboy
Hellraiser
Goodfellas
Casino
Audition
Martyrs
Jaws

I could go on all day, of course, but I will add that I love Tarantino, Kubrick, and the Coen bros. as much as anyone on these boards. Who doesn't, really?

Hope you enjoy your stay, man.

A League of their Own
Hoosiers
Apocalypse Now
A Few Good Men
The Social Network
The Hunt for Red October
Jerry MaGuire
It's A Wonderful Life
The Breakfast Club

Hey there Levon,

Love the eye candy in your pick -- mm mm mm, lol.

Ok, this is not a short list, sorry, there's just too many:

Gothika
One Perfect Day
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Willow
The Goonies
Sweet Home Alabama
The Grudge (scariest thing I'd seen at the movies back then)
Saw 2
Fast & Furious 1,4,5,6
Prince Of Pursia sands of time
The Skeleton Key
Romeo & Juliet (2006)
The Count Of Monte Cristo
27 Dresses
The Gift
The Next Three Days
The Holiday
Bird On A Wire
Romancing The Stone
Overboard
A Time To Kill
The Shawshank Redemption
And most recently - In Time, Friends With Benefits, Tron Legacy, The Great Gatsby & Ted will all go down as favs forever.

Oh, what the hell, I'll add Hansel & Gretel to the mix - thought it was a well thought out bit of fun.

I'd add Wolf Creek as another Aussie fav, but it kind of made my stomach churn with the whole 'jelly on a stick thing, so I'm not that inclined to watch it again - it's a good movie though, IMO.

Hi, all! Thanks for the lovely welcomes!

Dreamscale - Unfortunately, the only films I've seen on your list are the Hostels. The second was particularly gross as I remember it, not to say the first one wasn't of course. :)

James - It's nice to see Martyrs on someone's list! Love me some French horror. :)

Stevie - I'm also hearing Heat is a good film but I don't think I've ever seen it. It's the one with 50 cent in it, isn't it?

Crusader - I really need to watch more 70s-90s films :)

Flywings - That's quite the list you got there! I really liked Hansel and Gretel too! The best bit, by far, was Edward the troll.

Good man! Let me know what you think of it :) If you do enjoy it, I also highly recommend another brilliant Austrian film called The Counterfeiters which, if my memory serves me correctly, won the Oscar for best foreign film the year after The Lives of Others won the same award :)

Welcome aboard, Levon.

I have a top 4 favourite films which pretty much never change. In no particular order...

The Shawshank Redemption
Old School
Garden State
The Big Country

There are plenty of others that I love, from more obvious choices like The Usual Suspects, Reservoir Dogs and the LOTR trilogy, to what might be considered less obvious choices like The Raid, The Replacements and The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters.

This has Pacino and De Niro in it, came out in 1995. I don't think 50 cent is in it - if he is, he woulda been just a dime back then, lol.

50 cent is not in Heat.  He's in the terrible film that reunites DeNiro and Pacino for a 2nd time:  Righteous Kill.

It's a god awful movie, avoid if possible and just stick to Heat, which is a classic.

Hard to compose a list unless it's by genre.

For dramas, I feel Bicycle Thieves and The Conformist are somewhere in the top five.

Bicycle Thieves is a great movie. In my top 20 at least.

Just googled.  Definitely gonna check it out.  It's got Takeshi Kitano in it.   A very strange and talented dude to say the least.

Ever seen Fireworks?

Solid film. The graphic novels are even better, IMO, as they flesh everything out more. Great film, regardless.

Dude you ain't seen Battle Royale? Exciting! Kickass flick with (unsurprisingly) kickass Kitano, along with kickass everyone else. Kitano's cookie scene, though, is definitely a standout.

Sonatine is my personal favourite of Kitano's work, although Takeshis' is friggin' amazing. Obviously, Fireworks is also amazing.

I guess I'll throw down the latest version of my favourites, while I'm here.

Re-Animator
Duck Soup
The Rock
Annie Hall
Dogville

I watched part of it yesterday on a website called Viooz.  Couldn't hardly sit though it though.  Guess ya gotta be in a certain mood for a movie like that.   Oddly enough I found Pia's movie "Blackout" there, too.  It was interesting to see her name on the screen.

Pia, if you're out there, your film's  been pirated.  :(

Hey silver, I know what you mean. I'm not big on subs myself. That's probably why I haven't seen many Japanese films. But there are a select few out there that grab my attention. And before I know it, I don't even realize I'm reading subs during the movie.

Oh yea, and that certain mood you speak of....Cannabis can help facilitate that mood, well at least it does for me.

But I did like the teacher (Kitano) in Battle Royale. So I'm def gonna' check out "Fireworks" when I get a chance.
