This is a documentary about The Shining. More specifically, it's a lot of nerds who really have too much time on their hands waxing lyrical with their half baked theories about some of the themes, images and dequences in The Shining. As such I thought I'd love it.
Alas, I also thought that Lottery ticket I bought would actually win. And not some piddly amount either. A proper chunk.

I saw the trailer for this ages ago, a quite clever bit work involving a video recorder and a lot of blood. I finally got round to watching it a few nights ago.

However, as the vast majority of my film reviews on here consist of me moaning like an old man who's lost his bus pass, I waited a few days to see if my views might ease.

Nope. Some of this was pretty good and told me stuff I didn't know. Maybe ten minutes in all. Some of it was some delusion bloke trying to convince me it was a type of metaphor for Kubrick faking the moon landings. The feckin' eejit.

For those who want to more about the Shining there is a fine BBC Arena documentary by one of Kubrick's daughters. This is for completists and people with too much time on their hands who like getting annoyed. And boy, you'll get annoyed. A shame.

Now, where did I leave my bus pass?

That was about the only good thing in the film.

The rest was like, some of us got together and recorded ourselves and our theories on what The Shining was about.

You have to be a hardcore Shining fan to be into this film and even then, I don't know.

I'm sure that would be very painful experience. Very. However, even we couldn't come up with some of the half arsed loon babble Mr. Moon landings spouted. Ooh, Danny's wearing an Apollo 11 jumper. That means Stanley definitely faked the moon landings and is telling us.

I wouldn't trust that guy to sit on the toilet without breaking the bloody thing.

I also remember one bit where a fella was saying a few things vaguely interesting then paused while his young son distracted him. Quite why they left it in there is beyond me. Shortage of material? Was the edit button broken?

LoL. I saw this like a year ago and remember exactly what you're talking about. Bush league stuff.

I'd heard about this and was interested, but like with most conspiracy theorists out there (and I hate them with a passion) they have nothing to do but sit around all day and dream up - what else? -conspiracies.

The Newtown conspiracy theory was the last straw for me. Despicable.

I wasn't aware of the Newtown conspiracy theory, so I looked it up. Weird, to say the least. Despicable is right.

The thing about Room 237 is that it does have some good stuff in it. There's plenty of gems to be found in The Shining for those who look. Repeated viewings will be rewarded.

But the makers seemed immensely short of decent contributers. They didn't even show them, not a one, just cued up their audio which appeared to be recorded via phone. After about fifteen minutes they let the crazies in.

A completely missed opportunity.
