I AM A GHOST, written and directed by H. P. Medoza.

Genre: Revionist horror.
Length: 76 minutes

WOW! This is a partially biased review, since HP is one of my best friends. Even if we weren't friends, I still would've loved this movie.

Filmed with an estimated $10K budget, and on location in an operating Bed and Breakfast, it stars Anna Ishida as Emily, a ghost who is stuck in her afterlife. The family has hired a medium to help Emily walk into the light.

Anna Ishida carries the movie all by herself. We only hear the voice of the medium. She nails it. As Emily experiences learning about herself, so do we. Mendoza not only lets us watch, but he makes us Emily. It's brilliant filmmaking.

The first thirty or so minutes are slow, and at first they seem repetative, but pay close attention. Mendoza drops tiny clues in each one, that pays off big time in the end.

I won't spoil anything, but be warned about the ending. It's agressive and brutal. Mendoza grabs you by the balls and doesn't let go until after the movie ends. I was lucky to see this at the Castro theater, and I'm glad I did. Seeing it on the big screen, with a full house, was one of the best experiences I've ever had.

It's available on DVD and digital download.

Looks great. Also, the DVD jacket design is amazing. I'll check this one out for sure, once finals are over.
